A community of Christian worship, well-being and service

     Social Distancing ~ Spiritually Connecting

The week of October 17 - Oct. 24

From the Rector

Dear Friends and Members,

This Sunday morning we will hear from one of our members, Marlo Pratt as she bears witness to how her faith has informed how she shares her gifts at St. Mary's. Marlo is one of those people whose ability to think creatively about the needs of our community is matched by her ability get practical things done in ministry. She brings a smile to her ministry that puts others at ease. Lately, as you will hear, she has been giving of her time and gifts with increasing generosity. I say generosity, she would just say she's getting more involved at St. Mary's. She describes her life of faith like a puzzle, with one piece after another coming together.

One of the things that I notice about Marlo and about other members who give generously of their time, talent and/or money at St. Mary's is this: the more they engage in giving, the more they seem to grow in faith and love. Giving and faith go hand in hand. The more we practice generosity the more experiences of faith we have to draw upon. As our faith grows, the more we want to share it along with our many other blessings. People really need us to share these days!

It is a gift to be a part of a faithful, generous community. Here at St. Mary's, a number of our members are continuing to be all in, thinking about what is possible, rather than what we have lost. We are counting on each other right now in the midst of the health crisis, the divisive political climate, the call for social justice, and the uncertainty of the "next normal." Please find ways to stay connected and use your gifts, whatever they may be, to build up our church and share the love and good news of Jesus. See you at St. Mary's or online.

Blessings,  Jennifer+

Some things I / We really need help with:
  • Videographers to film worship. It is a simple task, and you will receive training and ongoing support.
  • Christmas Pageant People (all ages) who would have fun creating a nativity pageant for Christmas Eve - complete with animals, and a star that is visible from E. Main Road.
  • People to help with lighting our campus for Advent/Christmas/Epiphany. We have plans as never before - for sharing the light of Christ in the darkness.
  • Audio ministry - People who can run the sound system - with training and support.
  • Ministry with children and families.
  • The Welcome and Safety Team will be needing new members as we increase the number of services we offer in person each week.
Please email me [email protected] if you would like to use your time and talent in support of these ministries. All ministries will follow safety guidelines for Covid - 19.

Worship Changes

Sunday Service Time -Knowing that many of us enjoy this brisk, colorful season, and that we do many other things outside in autumn, we will continue to gather outside Sundays at 10:30 until further notice.

Drive in and/or bundle up -  We want to encourage people to pack your cars with warm blankets, hats, gloves, and anything else that will increase your comfort and joy at worship. We will increase the amount of space for cars to drive-in for worship.

Indoor Worship - We are taking seriously the guidelines and safety precautions necessary to restart indoor worship. As with our outdoor service, we will not launch this ministry until we have a complete plan for safe and reverent worship for all who wish to come inside. We are working on it every week -- professionaly testing and enhancing our ventilation system, assesing seating options, and lining up ministry leaders who are comfortable and willing to serve.

Ministry leaders needed for indoor worship - As we prepare to return to indoor worship we need lectors/intercessors, Eucharistic ministers, altar guild, videographers, and sound system support.  If you would like to resume a ministry or begin for the first time, please contact the Rector
very soon. We can only resume indoor worship with the commitment of our members to serve in ministry.

Online Worship will continueWe are now offering our Sunday worship in real time on Facebook live. In addition, we post the recording on our Youtube channel as soon as it is available. The links are below and in each newsletter. We are truly in need of people who can be trained to record the video. Please contact the rector if you can help with this.

Daily Evening Prayer Online -
This is a wonderful new offering that can tether us to Christ and one another. We will begin offering Evening Prayer as soon as we have trained a sufficient number of leaders who can read and pray the office. Please contact Carol Brierley if you want to participate or lead in this ministry. Technical support is available!

The Collect for The Twentieth Sunday After Pentecost

Almighty and everlasting God, in Christ you have revealed your glory among the nations: Preserve the works of your mercy, that your Church throughout the world may persevere with steadfast faith in the confession of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Drive-Thru Trick-or-Treat
St. Mary's is hosting a Drive-Thru Trick-or-Treat
on Saturday, October 31st!

To make this event a true success, we need at least 10 members to decorate a parking spot. This event will be for the kids and families of our community. Your parking spot can be decorated as simple or elaborate as you wish. We are also seeking candy donations. You can drop off bagged candy at the welcome desk when you come to Church on Sunday or at the office during business hours.

Please contact Marlo Pratt [email protected] if you are able to decorate a parking spot. Marlo will provide all the details you will need at that time.

This promises to be a fun community event for all, but especially the kids!  Please be a part of the...
