Mission of Border Servant Corps
BSC draws inspiration from Micah 6:8: What does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God? Border Servant Corps promotes and demonstrates justice, kindness, and humility through the intentional exploration of community, simplicity, social justice, and spirituality in the U.S./Mexico border region with border immersions and community engagement opportunities.

Values of Border Servant Corps
Affirmation of Welcome:
Border Servant Corps seeks to live out a vision of service, faith, and caring, imagining a world where peace and justice are pursued through non-violence, honoring each other and the earth we share.

Commitment to Inclusion & Non-Discrimination:
Border Servant Corps rejoices in the richness of diversity as expressed in various lifestyles, ages, cultures, political involvement, educational experiences, and faiths. We support, affirm, and challenge one another in a community living setting.

Reconciling in Christ:
Border Servant Corps is a ministry of Peace Lutheran Church, a Reconciling in Christ organization. As a community of God, we are called to minister to all people of our world.

Book Study

Neither Wolf Nor Dog Book Study Begins at the End of the Month for Both Immanuel and Bethesda

Starting Thursday February 27th
10:00 AM at Bayfield Presbyterian Church

An Unforgettable Journey into the Native American Experience

Against an unflinching backdrop of 1990s reservation life and the majestic spaces of the western Dakotas, Neither Wolf nor Dog tells the story of two men, one white and one Indian, locked in their own understandings yet struggling to find a common voice. In this award-winning book, acclaimed author Kent Nerburn draws us deep into the world of a Native American elder named Dan, who leads Kent through Indian towns and down forgotten roads that swirl with the memories of the Ghost Dance and Sitting Bull. Along the way we meet a vivid cast of characters - ranging from Jumbo, a 400-pound mechanic, to Annie, an eighty-year-old Lakota woman living in a log cabin with no running water. An unlikely cross between On the Road and Black Elk Speaks, Neither Wolf nor Dog takes us past the myths and stereotypes of the Native American experience, revealing an America few ever see.

There will be no Book Study at Immanuel
Wednesday February 5

"The Gospel continuing  with Mark" - Dick Bouton

This Bayfield Presbyterian and Bethesda Lutheran will be joining together in a joint Bible Study on Mark led by Dick Bouton. We will resume meeting on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. in the Bethesda Fellowship Hall February 6th.

In preparation for the study, Dick is asking potential participants to read the entirety of the Gospel of Mark in one sitting and then do that again within a week of the start of the study and ask yourself, "Did anything change for me when I read it a second time?" Make notes, if you wish, and bring your insights to the first study session.

Two shepherds lean on their crooks at the end of a long day and the first asks the second, "So, how's it going?"

The second one sighed and shook his head, "Not good, I can't pay my bills, my health isn't good, my kids don't respect me, and my wife is leaving me."

The first replied, "Well, don't lose any sheep over it."

"People of God ...serving God by serving others"
