There's lots of news this week - from new articles to tips on job hunting to new product releases.

Let's start with finding work. Cristian, at VeedYou.com, recently asked me, along with several others, for tips to help find work, with a special focus on folks just starting out. They assembled a nice collection of advice.

In bigger news - though, truthfully, nothing is bigger than finding a good job -  Maxon announced Release 21 of Cinema 4D last week at SIGGRAPH. "R21 introduces powerful new capabilities including a completely new Caps and Bevel system, new Field Force dynamics, interface speed enhancements and broader integration with popular hardware and software technologies. R21 also introduces Maxon's '3D for the Whole World' initiative, which aims to put professional 3D software within easy reach of every aspiring artist. This includes availability of a singular version of Cinema 4D, more efficient installation and licensing, and new low-entry subscription pricing." (Maxon press release)

In more news, Adobe After Effects has been selected for the new VFX category within Netflix's Post Technology Alliance, a program committed to serving the evolving needs of the post-production community through innovation and support. Adobe joined the program with Premiere Pro when it launched last fall. Now, After Effects will receive a Post Technology Alliance product designation specifically for VFX, a mark of quality, service, and support as a leading VFX tool.

Steve Weiss has invited me to be on Zacuto Live this Wednesday at 11AM CST. Zacuto Live is a weekly Facebook and YouTube show covering subjects that are important to filmmakers and content creators. I've enjoyed having Steve as a guest on the Digital Production Buzz. Now, I'm looking forward to being the one answering questions. Steve and his co-host Jens and I will be joined by Tanner Shinnick as we talk about " How to be a Successful Filmmaker."

Oh! I need your help. We are trying to recover some old media files identified by this icon; it dates from around 2005. If you know which app this icon represents, please email me! My entire brain-trust is completely stumped. We have old computers that can run whatever this is, once we know what whatever this is is. Thanks!

As I was creating my two HDR webinars - one for Final Cut and the other for Premiere - I wrote: " The Basics of HDR Media Explained." My goal was to provide a solid background on terms and uses for HDR media. The problem was that I made a mistake in calculating how bit depth affects file size. Sam Russell pointed out my error and, for this week, I updated the original article, then wrote a new one that explains this more deeply. It's my lead story in Articles this week.

Then, as I was researching the Adobe version of these HDR webinars, Adobe highlighted a very useful app called MediaInfo. So, this week, I reviewed it. Whether you use Avid, Adobe or Apple, this app will provide a lot of useful information. Best of all, it only costs 99¢! You'll find my review in Articles below. Even better, this can be used with ANY media, not just HDR.

A useful HDR utility is bundled with the latest version of Apple Final Cut Pro X: HDR Tools. I introduced this in my "HDR for FCP X" webinar, but, it does so much that I wanted to write more about it. This, too, is in Articles.

Finally, Paul was having a problem importing media into Final Cut. It was taking forever. As he and I were talking about the problem, I realized that he managed to turn his entire master media folder into a single camera card. My final article this week describes the problem and what you need to do to fix it.

In case you were wondering, webinars remain on hold while we work on some new ideas. So, as the last weeks of summer rapidly draw to a close, remember to enjoy some time off. Because once September returns, it will seem like everything just speeds up. Until next week, then, edit well.
