August 2021 Membership Newsletter
Dear Friends,
Happy first week of school!

In collaboration with the community, the DC Collaborative is thrilled to embark on another school year of providing equitable access to arts and humanities education for all DC students!

Together, we can achieve this mission. Together, we can ensure students feel ownership of the cultural resources in their city. Together, we can continue to inspire and provide alternate ways of self expression for students.

These goals are "lofty" but the work that we all do day-in and day-out makes a huge impact on the the DC Public Education System as a whole and in the lives of individual students. The Collaborative is looking forward to supporting DC's resilient arts and humanities education community of practice by serving as a steward of the community's important mission of equitable access.

Cheers to a new school year!

DC Collaborative Announcements
Wish Trés McMichael Well

Trés McMichael is moving on from the DC Collaborative to a position at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Please join us in wishing him well at virtual Happy Hour "Dance Party" on September 9, 2021 at 3 PM. RSVP Here!

Drop into the Happy Hour or send Trés a note (tres@dccollaborative.org) to thank Trés for his incredible leadership in implementing the DC Collaborative's Education Programs. Trés came to the DC Collaborative at a time when resourcefulness, creativity, openness, and expertise were needed in the face of dual pandemics. He executed his work brilliantly in support of the DC Collaborative Team, Member Program Providers, and to the benefit of our entire arts and humanities education community of practice. Trés's work ensuring equitable access to the arts and humanities will continue to benefit thousands of DC students and their teachers.

Trés will be the Program Manager for Social Impact Civic Alliances at The Kennedy Center. Trés will manage civic/community collaborators ensuring that all are included, appreciated, and valued. In his role he shall center anti-racist practices, establishing and maintaining concerted creative efforts to leverage the arts for non-arts outcomes with historically underrepresented and historically marginalized communities across the region.

Bring your best dance moves, beverage of choice, and gratitude to the virtual Happy Hour celebrating Trés on September 9! (Please note that dancing is not required!)

DC Co-lab: Community Collaboration & Data Initiatives
DC Co-lab Platform Opening Fall 2021

As you may know from previous communications, the DC Collaborative is launching a new community engagement tool this fall!

DC Co-lab is an extension of the DC Collaborative. It is a platform, using data as a tool, to engage our community and the DC public education sector to garner useful feedback, create meaningful conversations, measure impact, and enhance strategic planning for furthering successful collaboration and partnerships.

More information on how to become a Co-labORATOR will be presented in the coming months, including at the DC Collaborative's Annual Membership Meeting on October 26.
Call to Action: DC Co-lab Committees
DC Co-lab Community Engagement Committees (Co-lab Committees) are one of the ways that the DC Collaborative connects with the Community for authentic collaboration. We envision that the Committees will utilize DC Co-lab as a tool to drive community engagement initiatives by offering space for important community discussions and providing insight and feedback to DC’s arts and humanities education community of practice.

Co-lab Committees are led by a Steering Committee and supported by the Equity and Justice Subcommittee, Education Programming Subcommittee, and Assessment and Evaluation Subcommittee.

Fill out the form below to express interest in a committee or request more information.
