For the past four years, Bridge of Life (BOL) has been working in partnership with the organization, Double Harvest, in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti to screen and prevent chronic illnesses as part of our Chronic Disease Prevention Program. A primary focus of this program is to train Community Health Workers (CHWs) in four rural villages to provide ongoing testing, medication and preventative health education to hypertensive community members.
In the face of the pandemic, BOL has been able to strengthen this program by training the CHWs on how to safely work to prevent, detect and respond to COVID-19. The nine health workers are now hard at work educating families about COVID-19 prevention, distributing hygiene materials and PPE, supporting high-risk individuals, and collaborating with local health clinics.
BOL is excited to share that we are expanding our reach to a second area of Haiti and are now leading COVID-19 prevention activities in Nordette in partnership with The Road to Hope. Six local nurses joined our efforts and serve as CHWs on the frontline in the defense against COVID-19. Check out what these healthcare heroes have to say about their new role:
