Palm Sunday
Some trust in chariots or steeds, but we trust in the
name of the Lord, our God. Psalm 20:7

They cheered for Him; "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!" They spread cloaks and palms at His feet as they would a King atop a mighty stallion entering a victorious battle.
They thought him a warrior Messiah who came to defeat their oppressors. Instead, hopes of that nature were dashed when Jesus arrives as a humble servant Son of God astride a colt of a lowly donkey, the favored animal of the Israelites which symbolized peace in contrast to the horse, a symbol of power, wealth and warfare. Horses were owned by generals and the wealthy who could afford both purchase and upkeep but which was well beyond the means
of the average Jew. Even the Torah specified a limited number that could be owned by a Jewish monarch.
When the cheering stopped fleeting victory gave way to permanent defeat. Jesus' entry into Jerusalem marked the first step in that short journey to His trial, physical punishment, mental agony at feeling alone and abandoned, physical suffering, and a government sponsored unjust death on a cross.

Father God,
On this day of great rejoicing, our Lord Christ, as we welcome You as our King and Savior, we also walk in the shadow of Your cross. Hosanna we cry. Blessed are You who come in God's name to save us - Hosanna! Strengthen our faith on this Palm Sunday so when the time comes to carry the cross we might still call out to You with heartfelt praise. Give us the grace and courage to follow You this Holy Week, from death to resurrection, from darkness to the fullness of light. We need you, oh Christ our Savior. Hosanna!! -Amen
