BACK-TO-SCHOOL EVENTS:

AUGUST
FRI 8/16:
*School Supplies Sorting Day, 1-4 pm, MPR
Sign up to help during a time block here (bring the family!)

SUN 8/18:
*T/K & K Welcome Picnic, 4-6 pm, Calabasas Hills Park
Details were provided in a separate evite. If you didn't receive yours, please contact us at baylaurelpfa@gmail.com . MUST RSVP by 8/16 to obtain entry to the gated park.

MON 8/19:
*Back-to-School Night for TK/K, 5:30-6:30 pm, MPR & Classrooms (You will get your child's classroom assignments.)
* Rosti Restaurant FUN-raiser kicks off and goes through Thursday, 8/22

TUE 8/20:
* Registration Day for Grades 1-5, MPR, see below for times
  • 3:00-4:00 pm: Child's Last Names starting J-P
  • 4:00-5:00 pm: Child's Last Names starting R-Z
  • 5:00-6:00 pm: Child's Last Names starting A-I

WED 8/21:
*FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!! WELCOME BACK!
TK/K schedule: 9:00 am-10:30 am (*note 1st day schedule)
Grades 1-5 schedule: 8:15 am - 12:36 pm
Parents - join us 8:15-10:00 am for a Welcome Breakfast in the MPR. Learn about volunteer opportunities!

THU 8/22:
*Back-to-School Night for Grades 1-5, 5:45-7:30 pm, MPR & classroom visits
  • 5:45-6:15pm: Grades 4-5
  • 6:20-6:55pm: All Grades in MPR
  • 7:00-7:30pm: Grades 1-3

FRI 8/23:
*Family Move Night, 6-9 pm, Bay Laurel lower field
Movie to be announced soon!

SEPTEMBER
THU 9/5:
*New Dolphin Parents Mixer, 6:30-8:30 pm, private residence (invitations to come)

TUE 9/10:
*Mew Dolphin Parents Coffee, 7:45-8:30 am, MPR

Happy August, Dolphins!

It's hard to believe that, in just a few short weeks, our children will be starting the 2019-20 school year! That also means we are about to enter our largest direct ask donation drive of the year -- Annual Fund Drive (AFD) .

What exactly *IS* AFD , you ask? AFD is a critical source of funding that allows our PFA to fund essential programs at Bay Laurel that simply aren't funded by state and district budgets. We need to raise over $375,000 in order to fund programs such as: our music program, our art program, our new drama teacher, our computer lab, classroom supplies & technology, library enrichments, classroom and campus aides, and so much more! Take a moment to review the flyer below. You can learn more about AFD on our PFA website (or even pay online!), and let us know if you have any questions!

I look forward to connecting with both new and returning Dolphins at all of the events during Back-to-School week -- starting with the TK/Kindergarten Welcome Picnic on Sunday, 8/18, and culminating with our annual Family Movie Night on Friday, 8/23! Please stop and say hi if you see me (the Bitmoji isn't exact, but it's pretty close...ha ha).

NEWS YOU CAN USE - especially our newer families!
You will find that we refer to our Transitional Kindergarteners as "Journeys" so don't be confused if you see "TK" and "J" used interchangeably.

If you did not pre-purchase your school supplies back in June, please be prepared to send your child with their required school supplies on the first day of school. You can find the list for each grade level here on our website.

Here is the Bell Schedule for the year (also on the PFA Website ):
TK/K: 8:00am-1:00pm; Wed 8:00am-11:30am (optional lunch until 12pm)
Grades 1-3: 8:15am-2:17pm; Wed 8:15am-12:36pm
Grades 4 & 5: 8:15am-2:4 pm; Wed 8:15am-12:36pm
Note: Grades 1-5 have the option of lunch until 1:06pm on Wed.

Reminder: Carline is the process by which our kids are dropped off and picked up from school. It is important for your safety that you never get out of the car during car line and that your child always exits from the passenger side. We have parent volunteers and school staff to assist your child get in and out of the car. (Your chance to volunteer will be coming soon!) If your child cannot buckle or unbuckle their seat belt without assistance, you should park and walk your child into school. There is parking in the lower lot near the field or along the street. Please use the crosswalks when walking to school. Be safe everyone!

Reminder: All absences must be reported using this email address: BLESattendance@lvusd.org . Please make a note of it! When reporting absences include your child's name, your name & relation to student, grade, teacher and reason for the absence. Email the teach directly for homework questions.

With the shift in gears of changing schedules, and getting back into our daily school routines...who wants to cook?

From Monday, 8/19 through Thursday, 8/22, let Rosti Calabasas do the cooking for you! During Back-to-School week, Rosti will be serving Bay Laurel ALL DAY!

Just present a copy of the flyer (or mention Bay Laurel when you order) and 20% of your purchase will be donated back to the Bay Laurel PFA!

AFTER SCHOOL CARE/ENRICHMENT
Bay Laurel Elementary is proud to offer a number of high quality after-school care and enrichment classes. 

Information is posted on our PFA website for after-school care and enrichment activities from the following providers: Boys & Girls Club, the YMCA, Homework Club, Sports with Coach Dante, and JAXX Theatricals.
