As we prepare for the New Year, we are also beginning to prepare for changes and amendments to our adopted Codes. Our Construction Enforcement department has already begun preparations to provide training to local contractors on these changes to come as well as when these changes will go into effect and be enforced by our inspectors in the field. To avoid project delays in the coming New Year due to partial or failed inspections, contractors from all fields should begin to familiarize themselves with the 2021 I-Codes and the 2020 National Electric Code.
Among the changes are two local amendments of note. First, beginning January 1, all residential structures containing between three and six dwelling units will be subject to the International Residential Code, rather than the IBC. This change is meant to help boost production of small multifamily buildings to fill critical gaps in quality rental housing in the local market. Second, project information panels will now be required for certain permitted building projects that display critical project information. For more information on these changes and others from the 2021 code adoption, we encourage customers to register for the upcoming training.
