“Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”
Mother Theresa
It is always a joy to watch our children grow up into wonderful, loving adults. Living in the children’s home has been a bigger blessing than I could have ever imagined. I thank the Lord, our God, for the blessing He has given me in raising so many children that I have come to consider as sons and daughters. I want to tell you about a few of my children who are now grown.
My son, Charles came to live with me when he was nine years old. He is a brother to the late Bonafice and a sister, Mary. Charles struggled with many things in life, but particularly with God after the loss of his older brother after he died in a motorcycle accident. They lost their father when they were very young, ages 6, 5 and 2. They remained alone in his house, made of mud and sticks and grass on top, near their grandfather. The house caved in when Charles was ten years old, so we brought the three into my home. We worked hard to get funds together to build another home, but still there was no one to stay in the home with them.
Charles was always very bright, with excellent grades, as were Mary and Boney. Charles excelled the most and desired to be a dentist. During the years that Charles studied, there were only thirteen students studying this at Kampala International University, the only dentistry program in all of Uganda. It took six years of school and two years of internship before he could get his license. Very few dentistry graduates in the country of Uganda ever actually end up fully using their dentistry skills. Charles now practices in Kenya about a four hour drive away from us. and likes to visit home when he can.
