2021
One of my favorite things is learning that a performance is happening at my neighborhood park or at the local library. Even better, I love stumbling on a performance I didn’t know (or forgot) was happening while on an early evening stroll with my family. (This happened a couple of times this summer!)

An email we sent last month highlighted MSAC’s Presenting and Touring program. Budget-wise, this is one of MSAC’s smaller programs, but it is a powerful tool for creating these types of experiences statewide, helping to connect communities with arts experiences and performing artists with employment.

Basically, Maryland artists apply to be on MSAC’s Performing Artist Touring Roster. MSAC promotes Roster artists to organizations that can apply for Touring Grants, which help pay the Roster artists to perform at Maryland events, festivals, and venues (large, small, and virtual too). Eligible organizations might include libraries, places of worship, neighborhood associations, and community non-profits in addition to the more traditional performing arts spaces, universities, and local government agencies that regularly mount events and festivals.

I encourage you to look into this program or share it with the organizations you’re involved with and with artists who could join the Roster. Applications for both the Roster and grants are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed quarterly. Contact Laura Weiss or Emily Sollenberger with questions.

Be well, and remember that MSAC’s Arts Calendar can help you find arts experiences in your area and online!

Made in Baltimore supports makers and manufacturers in Baltimore City. Their mission is simple: encourage investment in Baltimore’s economy by growing the market for locally-made goods and supporting the people who make them.
At the heart of our program is a strong community of manufacturers, retailers and maker spaces working together to create and promote locally-made products. Their growing network of over 200 product-based businesses ranges from home-based maker to large scale manufacturer.

Last month, an article was published in Next City highlighting the work of the organization and the partners that have helped move Baltimore City towards a more inclusive and equitable economy. They are described as a 'national model' for strategies that city's can take to support and nurture small businesses. The article refers to their latest program, the Home-Run Accelerator, which wrapped at the end of September. You can see a recap here. Next up. they're working on their Holiday Pop-Up Shop!
