Burn Awareness Week - The Westland Fire Department is helping to raise burn awareness from  - Sunday, February 2, 2020 - Saturday, February 8, 2020 by participating in Burn Awareness Week. The American Burn Association, made up of over 2,000 members around the world, is dedicated to promoting and supporting burn-related research, education, care, rehabilitation and prevention.  For more information please click   here.

The William P. Faust Library will be holding a Valentine's Day Escape Room on  Sunday, February 2, 2020 at 12:00 p.m., 1:45 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.  located at 6123 Central City Parkway.  You are part of the elite task force of detectives that has been called to locate Cupid. He's been going around the world making unlikely pairs fall in love causing extensive drama, confusion, and mayhem.  Valentine's Day is right around the corner, it is up to you to stop him before his reign of terror gets out of hand. Registration required please call 734-326-6123 this event is for teenagers.
   
Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location: 
  • Elections Commission will hold a meeting on Monday, February 3, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. will be held at Westland City Hall located at 36300 Warren Road. Please click here for the agenda.

The Westland Youth Assistance Program will be holding Strengthening Families Workshops for Parents and Children on Mondays, February 3, 2020 through March 23, 2020.  These are free sessions with different topics:  helping families learn to communicate better, avoiding peer pressure, building positive relationships and other topics.  The sessions are to be held at Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, located at 32150 Dorsey St. Please call (734)467-7904 to register for this 7 week program.    
 
Friends of the Library Book Sale Preview - on Thursday, February  6, 2020 from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, at 6123 Central City Parkway, Meeting Rooms A and B. Join us for our quarterly book sale! The Preview Book Sale, is a chance for members of the Friends of the Library (or those interested in joining) to get first pick at this month's sale. The Book Sale will be open to the general public on Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. On Sunday, February 9, 2020  from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. you can fill a bag with books for just $4.00! Please visit www.westland.lib.mi.us   for more information.

The Inspire Theater is now auditioning for Spamalot on Monday, February 3, 2020 and Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. located at 33455 Warren Rd. Plan on arriving before 6:30 p.m. to fill out paperwork and staying until 9:00 p.m. There will be cold readings and a portion of a song will be taught at auditions.  For more information please call 734-751-7057.

Gallery at City Hall is pleased to present Black History Month Art Exhibition Public Reception on Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. located at 36300 Warren Road.  The exhibition features local artists honoring the spirit and accomplishments of African Americans in every endeavor throughout our history.  For more information please call 313-231-3939.

Save the Date - "Show Me the Money Day" - a free financial and community resource fair to help you reach your goals.  This event will take place on Monday, February 10, 2020 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Jefferson Barns Vitality Center, 32150 Dorsey Road.  

City of Westland to Hold Recycling Town Hall - On Tuesday, February 11, 2020, Mayor Wild and the City's Administration will hold a town hall meeting to update residents on the current status of recycling and answer questions relating to the upcoming sanitation fund ballot proposal.  The town hall will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the Gene McKinney Grand Ballroom inside Westland City Hall, located at 3600 Warren Road.

Tickets are now available for Family Prom Night at Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center located at 32150 Dorsey Road, they will be hosting a Family Prom Night - on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  There will be a DJ and Square Dancing, arts and crafts, snacks and drinks.  The first 50 children will receive free school supplies.  Please RSVP at 734-793-9390.
