MMC Executive Board Update

The Metro politan Mayors Caucus Executive Board met on July 8th. Both Mayor Scheilke and President Berman were in attendance. Topics to note:
  • The Caucus is working towards performance- based project selection awards (an item that was not in the Capitol Project legislation)
  • Cannabis enforcement task force- will work with stakeholders to possibly create some addendums to the bill to address law enforcement concerns
  • Mayor Burns spoke about environmental issues including the Greenest Region Compact (GRC). Many communities are using the GRC Framework to assess their sustainability efforts and there are many programs you are already doing. This collective work can accelerate your progress towards your GRC goals.
  • For more details, explore the website at:  https://mayorscaucus.org/initiatives/environment/rec/
  • 2020 Census: Secretary of State has awarded the Caucus $71,000 for the 2020 census and will offer peer-to-peer workshops. More details to come.
  • Do you have sites or structures in your community that you'd like to preserve for future generations because they are of historical or architectural significance, but are under threat of demolition or imminent deterioration? If so, Landmarks Illinois may be able to provide some grant assistance. Please check out the following site to learn more about the programs it has available as well as expenses it is willing to cover: http://www.landmarks.org/resources/financial-resources/landmarks-illinois-grants-landmarks-illinois/ The site provides extensive info on two grant programs in particular. Upcoming application deadlines for the Preservation Heritage Fund Grant Program are August 15 and November 15. Applications for the Barbara C. and Thomas E. Donnelley II Fund are due November 15.
