WEEKLY PARISH WORSHIP VIDEO

This St John’s Worship Video anticipates our in-person worship service on Sunday, October 31, 2021 – All Saints Sunday.

This video features a conversation with Khaled Salam, Executive Director of the AIDS Committee of Ottawa. With a special focus on All Saints, our conversation begins from one of the scripture passages for Sunday, the Wisdom of Solomon 3:1-9. Our focus on the Righteous who are in the hands of God begins from a shared understanding that human judgment does not determine who is righteous. Faith-based and service-based organizations begin with a commitment to the dignity of all people.

We look ahead to World AIDS Day, Wednesday, December 1, 2021. St John’s will host World AIDS Day in collaboration with partners including the AIDS Committee of Ottawa, Bruce House, T’s Pub and Le Choeur gai d’Ottawa Gay Men’s Chorus. This will be a 75-minute assembly beginning at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome – double-vaccination required.

We hope you will join us for in-person worship. Check out our safety practices and register:

Welcome and I’m looking forward to meeting you!

UPCOMING EVENTS
Stewardship 2022 - Taking the Next Step Together

Does what matters to you align with what matters to St John's?

During the month of November you will see how St John's intersects and interacts with the neighbourhood outside our doors. You will hear how St John's impacts the lives of people who come here for worship and community. You will learn how the outreach work we do impacts the lives of people in the neighbourhood.

Watch for your Stewardship package ready for pick up on Sunday, November 7, or mailed to you during the following week. Donor intention cards will include space to share your prayers for St John's future. We will celebrate our prayers and commitments on Sunday, November 28.

Please take time to consider how we will take the next steps together.
Young Adult Lunch
St John’s welcomes university and college students to our church family. Or maybe you’re finished your studies and starting your career. Let’s have lunch together as we share faith and friendship. We’ll choose a place nearby immediately following the Sunday service. You’re welcome to bring friends. Sunday, November 21.
Bishop's Visit
We look forward to welcoming Bishop Shane Parker to St John’s on Sunday, December 12. Plan to be with us as we welcome our Bishop!
Please join us for discovery walks in the geographic St John’s parish.

Discovery Walks: Start walking from the church 9:30 a.m.

Saturday, 6 November – Discover Elgin Street
Saturday, 13 November – Discover Somerset Street
Saturday, 20 November – Discover Bank Street

Each walk will conclude with coffee and conversation:

What did we see? What did we hear? What did we learn?
Please join us this fall as we read together and welcome guest speakers about what we are reading. We are starting with White Fragility by Robin Diangelo.
The book’s subtitle helps us to know what to expect:
“Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk about Racism.” Please join us in concluding Session:
Discussion of Challenging Sections and What we have Learned.

Wednesday 10 November, 7:30 p.m.
Please join us on Zoom:
Looking ahead in November we plan to read Courage & Complicity, a story from the Residential Schools by St John’s parishioner Claudette Languedoc. In December, we look forward to welcoming Dr Herbert O’Driscoll, former rector of St John’s, for a discussion of his book “I Will Arise and Go Now: Reflection on the Meaning of Places and People.”

We look forward to welcoming Claudette Languedoc and Herbert O’Driscoll for these sessions.
