State of Arkansas  
 
 
Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced that a sharp increase in cases today. Today, there were 729 cases of COVID-19 reported, 319 more cases than the 410 reported yesterday. Of the new cases, 65 were in Pulaski County and 25 were in Garland. 
 
Today's positive tests bring the number of cumulative cases in the state to 54,216. Of those cases, 5,919 are considered active. Of the active cases, 38 are in nursing homes, 961 are in correctional facilities and 4,921 are in the community. 
     
Hospitalizations increased by 7 since yesterday, bringing the total currently hospitalized to 499. Of those hospitalized, 114 are on ventilators.      
 
There were also 12 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the state's total to 631.  
 
Hutchinson also announced Arkansas will be submitting its application to FEMA for $300 per week enhanced unemployment compensation. The application still needs to go through the legislative council. If approved, the $300 will replace the $600 that was being added to unemployment following the crisis.  You can read more here

As of Aug. 19 at 2:30 p.m., the United States deaths attributed to COVID-19 are 171,012, according to the CDC.

Saline & Garland Counties 
 
As of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, 1,319 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Saline County. Of those, 1,034 have recovered and 275 of the total cases are considered active. The number of deaths in Saline County has increased to 10.
 
Garland County currently has 1,233 cumulative cases of COVID-19. So far, 1,013 people are considered recovered and 201 cases are considered active. The total number of deaths has increased to 19.

Digest Change
After today, COVID-19 updates will be shared three times a week. The COVID-19 Update digest will be released on Monday and Wednesday. The section for COVID-19 updates in Friday's Village Digest will remain. Monday will share COVID-19 information from Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Wednesday will share Tuesday and Wednesday's data. The Village Digest will share Thursday and Friday's data.
