Celebrating Two Amazing Educators

Julie Gottschalk and Julie Lacy will both be retiring at the end of the academic year. Words can not express how much both of them will be missed. Julie Gottschalk has impacted the lives of Peabody students for over twenty years. Peabody has become what it is today because of her dedication, creativity and service to our community. Julie Lacy has been instrumental in the development of our fourth and fifth grade program and has been a mentor to our staff and advocate for our students. Although we can not celebrate both of these amazing women together in person, I know I speak for our community when I say "Thank You" for their selfless dedication to our school.
Staff Updates

I am happy to announce that Liz Barbour will be shifting to 4th Grade Social Studies/Language Arts and Ben Brinkop will be moving to the 5th Grade Social Studies Language Arts position. We are excited that both Liz and Ben are moving into these roles and know they will do a great job!

I am happy to announce that we have hired Heather Miller as our new 4/5 Grade Math/Homeroom teacher. Heather received a B.A. from Dartmouth College and an M.A. in Curriculum and Teaching from Columbia University Teachers College. She has taught several different age groups but has a particular passion for math and for students in the upper elementary grades. Heather has taught at several private schools, most recently as the Learning Support Specialist, working with accelerated 5th Grade math students, at the Benjamin Franklin International School in Barcelona. Previously, she was the Lower School Math Specialist at Charlotte Preparatory School. When not teaching, Heather spends time with her children, who are young adults, and she enjoys hiking, reading, yoga, and relaxing with her two cats. We look forward to Heather joining our community!

I also wanted to officially announce that Jeannette Ortega has been hired as our new Business and Operations Manager. She has been serving in this role on a temporary basis and we welcome her to the fold full-time! Jeannette earned her B.S. in Accounting and Business from the University of Phoenix. She most recently served as the controller for the Virginia Panel Company and the Assistant Controller for the Byers Incorporated. She has extensive experience as an accountant and has done some great work for us in her short tenure. I know she is anxiously waiting to meet all of you!

Shelby Canonico, who has been instructing kindergarten during Sarah Ridle's maternity leave,
will be our full-time kindergarten teacher next year. Shelby attended Virginia Tech and earned both a B.A. in History with a minor in Psychology and a Masters in Teaching. She has worked with students from Pre-K to Sixth grade from a variety of backgrounds as an assistant teacher, a personal tutor, and a student-teacher. She has her ESL endorsement and will be working towards her gifted endorsement. The kindergarten will be located in the new North Wing next year!
Congrats to the Class of 2016 on their College Decisions!

Summer Send Off and Device Return, Week of June 15th

We are planning a day for students to come back to school individually and gather their belongings and return their device. Additionally, each family will receive a yearbook as a thank you for your flexibility, understanding, and support during this unprecedented time. Students will also receive their promotion certificates and possibly be able to take a quick walk through the new wing. This will be a highly structured event with safety protocols in place, including wearing masks. Please be on the lookout for the schedule via email in the next two weeks.
Town Halls

We are excited to announce that we will host series of town halls during the week of May 25th. Mr. Orlando will talk about our preliminary thoughts on reopening next year and discuss distance learning this far. Details will follow in an email next week.
