BIA VICTORY!
VICTORY: LA City Keeps Construction Going!
Today, thanks to BIA-LAV's advocacy, the City of Los Angeles’ Planning and Land Use Management Committee (PLUM) decided to continue the “Stop Construction” Ordinance until October 29, 2020. The Ordinance, by Councilman Ryu, would have stopped all construction, until November 30, 2020, including current projects being built. For more information e-mail Diana Coronado.

ADVOCACY IN ACTION
CBIA Fall Governance Meetings
This week, the California Building Industry Association (CBIA), BIA-LAV's State arm, kicked off their Fall Governance Meetings. We were briefed on the outcomes of the 2020 Legislative Session, goals and strategies for the 2021, and we discussed State and National regulations affecting the industry. BIA Testifies Against Capping Single Family Housing
On Wednesday, BIA-LAV testified against LA City Councilman Ryu's Mansionization Motion at City Council . The Item seeks to cap the size of single-family homes and establish new regulations for all residential zoned properties. This Motion could potentially ban the construction of new single family homes in specific areas - a significant overreach in trying to address Mansionization proliferation.
LA County Moves Forward with Reducing Housing in Fire Zones
This week, the County of Los Angeles passed a motion to support local and State legislation that would reduce development in very high fire severity zones. BIA-LAV opposed this Ordinance and provided the letter, below, with our concerns. We will be tracking this item closely if it becomes the basis for utilization.
