CDC Updates COVID-19 Guidance
|
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated its guidance for the discontinuation of transmission-based precautions and disposition of patients with COVID-19 in health care settings. The CDC has also updated its criteria for health care personnel to return to work after suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19. These are interim guidances and are subject to change. Read more.

DPH Announces Latest COVID-19 Statistics

14,788 Total Confirmed Cases - 585 Total Deaths in Delaware
|
According to the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH), Delaware has a total of 585 fatalities due to COVID 19. Individuals who have died ranged in age from 21 to 104 years old.
Beginning this week, those tested through Delaware's community saliva-based testing events, will be able to receive results via text as well as email when an email address is provided. This enhanced service will reduce the time for those who do not provide an email address to receive their test results.
The latest Delaware COVID-19 statistics include:
- 14,788 total laboratory-confirmed cases
- New Castle County cases: 6,794
- Kent County cases: 2,167
- Sussex County cases: 5,608
- Unknown: 219
- Age range: 0 to 104
- Hospitalized: 46; Critically ill: 11

Equity and Mental Health in the Black Community

Lieutenant Bethany Hall-Long will be hosting an important follow up "Community Conversation" regarding mental health and equity in the black community on Thursday, August 6th at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. In May the Lt. Governor was joined by AMA Past President Patrice A. Harris, MD, MA and other notable speakers from the First State to dig into the mental health challenges facing the black community. Dr. Harris will again be participating in this important event. Guests include:

Incoming Secretary Magarik Announces Leadership Changes
|
Newly sworn in Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) Secretary Molly Magarik has announced several leadership changes across the organization. Of the notable changes, Magarik will conduct a national search for a new Director for the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH). Deputy Director Alexis Teitelbaum will serve as Acting Director. Current DSAMH Director Elizabeth Romero, will be transitioning to spend more time with her family and continue her work to improve equity, health, and health systems. Read more.

It is with sadness that we report long-time MSD member John A. J. Forest, Jr, MD passed away on July 17th after an extended battle with Parkinson's disease. Dr. Forest was a beloved Dover pediatrician, holding the bragging rights as the first Board Certified pediatrician south of the canal! He served in the army during World War II and fought at the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded two purple hearts and a bronze star for his service. Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and many patients he helped throughout his career. Read obituary. |
