More Room to Play

In Red Wing, we love our playgrounds and play areas, and now we can look forward to two more! The Red Wing School District asked the City to help install a playground at Twin Bluff Middle School this spring, similar to the one built at Sunnnyside Elementary in 2019. Council approved that request Monday night. The colorful new playground will complement a second playground -- a new nature play area -- at Twin Bluff. The nature play area, initially started by Live Healthy Red Wing, will now be completed through Red Wing Community Education. Two new play areas and a bunch of happy students--now that's some good news we can all be glad about.
Do You Pay Property Taxes?
You'll want to read this article!
Property taxes and valuation forms probably aren't your favorite things to receive in the mail, but they're important and they'll be hitting your mailbox soon! So, what are they and how do they differ? One will be your 2020 Property Tax Statement--this is what you owe in property taxes this year. The other is a Value and Classification Notice, which is essentially a preview of the value that will be used to calculate next year's taxes based on your home's current estimated market value. Seems pretty straightforward, right? That second form is especially important because if you disagree with your home's current valuation, you can bring your concerns to the Goodhue County Assessor and their office can walk you through how to contest and appeal the valuation.

COVID-19 vaccinations are here and when it's your turn to get one, there are a lot of good reasons to do it. Goodhue County Health and Human Services has teamed up with the City of Red Wing and other partners to give you the latest details about the vaccine. “The opportunity to get vaccinated is here and available, so we should all take advantage of it," says Mayor Mike Wilson. "It’s what we need to do to get things up and running. I’m personally glad I was able to get vaccinated, and I hope everyone else will, too."

Creating a Plan to Address Homelessness
Red Wing will begin to examine homelessness in-depth and, together as a community, create a system so all residents have a place to live. On Monday night, City Council approved two steps to start that process. The first step: Conducting a detailed study locally. The second step: Working together to build a system of transitional housing that addresses varying needs. Funds for the two-step process come from federal CARES dollars that can assist the needs of residents. You can read the report and documents here.
