Dear Neighbors,
Chicago Police are alerting residents in the 18th District about recently reported burglary-related incidents. In each incident, the offender(s) forces entry into residences through the front/side door and enter the premises. Once inside, the offender(s) removes property and leaves the area. Speaking before a recent Old Town Triangle Association, our Commander Daniel O'Shea assured residents that these cases are a pattern that is being investigated vigorously.
Incident times and locations
:
- 900 block of West Concord, Saturday, January 11, 2020 - evening.
- 1800 block of North Orleans, Thursday, January 16, 2020 - afternoon.
- 1100 block of North Howe, Friday, January 17, 2020 - afternoon.
- 2100 block of North Sedgwick, Wednesday, January 22, 2020 - afternoon.
- 1400 block of North Larrabee, Wednesday, January 22, 2020 - evening.
About the Offenders:
(2) Male, African Americans, 5'9" - 6'1", 160 - 200 lbs, between 25-30 years
What you can do:
- Keep doors locked and windows secure.
- Immediately repair broken windows, doors, or locks. Check your door frame.
- If video surveillance is available, save and make a copy of the incident for investigating Detectives.
- If you are a victim, do not touch anything and contact the police immediately.
- Keep a record of property serial numbers.
- Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of any suspicious people including any vehicle description and license plate information.

Senior Homeowner's Exemption Changes
A new law championed by Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi amends the Illinois Property Tax Code so that seniors granted the Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption in Cook County will not need to reapply for the exemption every year, as was previously required.
Seniors who received the exemption last year do not have to re-apply. Seniors not currently receiving the exemption, and homeowners turning 65, must apply for the senior exemption in 2020 and their exemption will then automatically renew each year. The Assessor’s Office is sending out notices to those who already receive the renewal and others who may be eligible for it. You can expect a notification sometime late February.
We thank the Illinois General Assembly and Governor Pritzker for passing this common-sense legislation.

Join Stage Right CPS Lincoln Park for a reception followed by a performance at the Victory Gardens Theater. All profits will benefit the upcoming auditorium renovations at Lincoln Park High School. At 6 pm, appetizers and wine will be provided, followed by a preview of "How to Defend Yourself" a play by Liliana Padilla.
Tickets are $50 per person. All proceeds will go directly to Lincoln Park High School.

19th District Diaper Drive
Through January 31
The 19th District Community Policing office is collecting diapers for young mothers who have children under 5 years of age and currently live in shelters. Please drop off donated items at the 19th District CAPS office located at 850 W. Addison.
