2019 PURA VIDA MINISTRIES ANNUAL GALA
Friday, November 1st at 6:00 pm

Pura Vida Ministries will hold a Benefit Dinner and Celebration on Friday, November 1st at the Lakewood Country Club in Lakewood, Colorado. The gathering will provide an opportunity to join in the celebration of the continued success of Pura Vida's Guatemala ministries.

The evening includes a reception at 6:00pm, dinner at 7:30pm, and a program presentation on Pura Vida's mission. There will also be a silent auction and time to mingle with others who've participated in Pura Vida's success.

Pura Vida Ministries is currently providing scholarships for over 350 children in several rural Guatemalan villages. Many of these students wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to attend school. A significant number of these scholarship students are sponsored by families from this church.  Many of these students, who began sponsorship in primary school, are now enrolled at university. Pura Vida is extremely grateful for your support.

Work teams have provided many news homes and school classrooms for needy communities in Guatemala.  Our English Camp has just completed it's 6th year teaching English skills to students in communities near Chichicastenango.  Your church has been instrumental in the success via sponsorships, mission trips and financial & prayer support throughout Pura Vida's history.

Please join us November 1st to celebrate our shared accomplishments and hear more about plans for the future of Pura Vida ministries.

For more details about the event and to order tickets, go to  http://www.puravida.org/dinner , or Nickie Rounds at  [email protected]  or  (303)-632-8191.

A Cork's Influence

Your ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all your paths -- Proverbs 5:21

Sarah gave another of her great children's moments on Sunday. It was about how small things can make a real difference. I'd like to continue on that theme.

A tour group passed through a particular room in a factory. They viewed an elongated bar of steel, which weighed five hundred pounds, suspended vertically by a chain. Near it, an average-size cork was suspended by a silk thread. "You will see something shortly which is seemingly impossible," said an attendant to the group of sightseers. "This cork is going to set this steel bar in motion."

She took the cork in her hand, pulled it only slightly to the side of its original position, and released it. The cork swung gently against the steel bar, which remained motionless. For ten minutes the cork, with pendulum-like regularity, struck the iron bar. Finally, the bar vibrated slightly. By the time the tour group passed through the room an hour later, the great bar was swinging like the pendulum of a clock.

Many folk can feel they aren't exerting a feather's weight of influence upon others or making a dent in the needs of the world. Not so! Sometimes we don't realize how powerful the cumulative influence of God's goodness, which we walk in, is to those around us. Most of us are called to live our lives as "corks", through word and example - quietly, gently tapping away through the work of our daily lives.

It has been estimated that the average person encounters about twenty different people in the course of a day, with a minimum of eye contact and exchange of words or a gesture. That's at least twenty opportunities for our corks to "tap" at the collective human heart.

Blessings,
Pastor Deb
