"Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting, and autumn a mosaic of them all," wrote poet Stanley Horowitz.
October in Kennett Square brings a beautiful mosaic of the arts, festivals, harvest, and lots of family fun. The Kennett Symphony opens its season on October 12th with "Lament to Triumph," featuring works by Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. On Thursday, October 17th, State Street will be closed from Broad Street to Union as Kennett Square hosts the Plein Air Brandywine Valley Nocturne Event. Come and watch dozens of juried artists from around the country paint your favorite spots in our beautiful town.
Opportunities to support our local cultural institutions this month include a special concert featuring Taylor Hicks on October 12th at Anson B. Nixon Park to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Kennett Flash, as well as the annual Kennett Library Benefit, "The Glory of the Sea," at the Stone Barn on October 17th.
Kennett Square is the destination for history and Halloween fun this year, too. On Saturday, October 19th, characters from Kennett Square's fascinating history come to life during Tales from the Past: Haunted History Tour. The history tour is a fun, family-friendly event, as is the Halloween in KSQ festival on Saturday, October 26th from 3 to 6 p.m. Enjoy a festive afternoon of treats, crafts, face painting, Farmers Market harvest activities, and more! Trick-or-treating in the Borough this year will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on October 31st.
