Maccabi Victoria AGM 2019
Over 50 people, including Maccabi Victoria club representatives, Life Members, Hall of Fame Legends & Members, MAI & MV Board and Foundation members, attended the 2019 Maccabi Victoria AGM held on Wednesday 14 August at the Maccabi Victoria Office.
Election of Officers: Joel Queit (Treasurer), Janine Baum (Board Member), Caryn Cave (Board Member), Sheiny New (Board Member) and Sharon Roseman (Board member) were elected onto the board unopposed.
Glen Kanevsky (Treasurer), Anita Bartfeld (Board Member), Kate Perlstein (Board Member), Rochelle Rothfield (Board Member), Mark Waters (Board Member), stepped down from the Board. Brian thanked outgoing Board Members, Glen Kanevsky, Kater Perlstein, Mark Waters, Anita Bartfeld and Rochelle Rothfield for their outstanding contributions to the board.
Brian Swersky (President), Dean Mohr (Vice President), Sam Strunin (Secretary) remain on the Board for the second of their two year terms.   
Michael Sharp was re-appointed as Honorary Solicitor and Hilton Miller as Auditor.
Dale Smorgon, (new Chair of the Maccabi Victoria Sports Foundation) presented the MVSF Report for 2019.
Dale presented inaugural MVSF Chair, Ian Davis, with a beautiful plaque in recognition of his role as Chairman of the Maccabi Victoria Sports Foundation for 16 years. Ian’s dedication and passion for connecting our Jewish community through sport is greatly valued.
Jeff Sher (President, MAI) delivered his 2019 MAI report and presented a plaque to Sam Gamsu, to acknowledge his outstanding work and tireless commitment as General Manager of the Australian delegation to the 14th Pan American Games in July 2019,
A few items of General Business were covered, and the 2019 AGM was over for another year.

Maccabi Holiday Sports Camp September - October 2019
Maccabi will run the fun Holiday Sport Camps in the upcoming school holidays. The potential dates (to be confirmed) are Thursday September 26 th, Friday September 27 th and Thursday October 3 rd. Due to the big demand, the sports offered will be Basketball and Futsal. The sport camps are for 6-12 year old girls and boys. Futsal Activities Supported by the Henry Jolson Pathways Program
Futsal (Indoor Soccer) is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, and is definitely growing in the Victorian Jewish Schools.
More than 60 year 5-9 Yeshivah College students participated in the first week of Futsal sessions, offered by Maccabi through the Henry Jolson Pathways Program. The activity will continue during Term 3. The students and coach Martin Jona are enjoying the Futsal sessions very much!!.
The first Maccabi Inter-School Futsal tournament took place last Friday at Bialik College, with 6 teams participating. The event was supported by the Maccabi Henry Jolson Pathways Program. Thanks to the players, coaches, referees and everyone involved!!.

Maccabi is seeking a part time Administration Assistant for 20 hours per week for its Head Office.
The position will involve considerable interaction and liaison with member clubs, players, parents, community organisations and working collaboratively with the ED and other staff and volunteers maintaining the operations of a busy office environment.
It is essential for the successful applicant to be highly computer literate, experience in database management, copy writing and social media, proven organisational ability and good communication skills.
You will have attention to detail, initiative, a ‘can do’ approach and the ability to liaise with and handle people in a friendly and professional manner.

Melbourne Jewish triathlete Charlie Rose looking forward to Lausanne
Melbourne 22-year-old Charlie Rose only began competing in triathlons three years ago, but hard work, discipline in training and several podium finishes at major Australian events have earned him a debut spot at the world championships in the men’s 20-24 age division.
Jackettes brave in grand final defeat
AFTER an awe-inspiring run of form that surprised many other teams throughout the 2019 VAFA women’s division 4 season, the AJAX Jackettes succumbed to minor premiers Glen Eira/Old Mckinnon in the grand final played in gale force conditions at Mentone Oval last Sunday morning.

Maccabi Athletics club athlete Shanie Landen recently represented Israel placing 3 rd  (out of 12 athletes) in the European Athletics Team Championships 800m clocking 2.06.6 sec. What a highlight for Shanie and the club!

Maccabi Junior Futsal is Open for Registrations
Maccabi Junior Futsal (Indoor Soccer) is ready to kick off after the 2019 Football season finishes.
For the first time Maccabi Futsal can offer you a night of Futsal training and a game night, thereby increasing your ball skills throughout the summer off season.
Training will take place on Sunday nights in one hour sessions at the Orrong Romanis centre and game nights will be on Thursday at GESAC.
