BOARD MATTERS
Dallas Afterschool Celebrates Outgoing Members While Welcoming New Members
A new fiscal year is almost here, which means Dallas Afterschool recently had to bid farewell to a hand-full of amazing board members. Among them Kristi Erickson, longtime Board Chair, Kathi Child, Colleen Bowler, and Client Representative Amy Juengling. We are truly thankful for their service and commitment over the years!

At the same time, we are excited to welcome the following new board members (pictured below, top to bottom): Dr. Trillion Small, Ellen Miller, and Client Representative Marjorie Murat. We are also happy to welcome back former Board Chair Terry Conner.
THE VOTE IS IN... AFTERSCHOOL WINS!
New Funding for Out-of-School Time
Just last week, Dallas City Council approved an increase in funds for Youth Services. This means there will be an additional $300,000 annually to support out-of-school time services along with early childcare.

Thank you to those of you who filled out surveys, wrote letters, and helped us advocate for these funds. This could not have been done without you and the 300+ comments that you submitted.

Your efforts made a tremendous difference!
A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO
Christina K. Hanger
June has been a very busy time for Dallas Afterschool! Not only have we said goodbye to outgoing board members and welcomed new ones, but our summer literacy efforts are in full swing! It is our fifth year to bring our very successful Tackle Summer Slide program to the community, which will impact 1,000 students. In addition, we have increased our capacity to serve more students this summer through our new RISE Literacy program. This effort has enabled us to reach over 1,500 more students and further prevent summer slide while helping children thrive. Special thanks to our partners at Readers 2 Leaders for developing lesson plans and conducting the training for our RISE tutors.

Thank you for your believing in Dallas Afterschool and the importance of our summer literacy work! We appreciate your continued support.
SUMMER INTERNS
Making an Impact During Summer Break
Dallas Afterschool is very fortunate to have extra help this summer, thanks to two fabulous interns.

Kyle Hairston (below) is our Urban Leaders Fellow. He is working with our After the Bell Alliance on policy issues this summer.
Also joining us is Lauren Magruder (below). Lauren is our ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program Intern. She is serving as Assistant Project Manager for our Tackle Summer Slide/Rise Literacy work.
PARTNERSHIP APPRECIATION LUNCHEON
Celebrating Afterschool Professionals and Programs
Dallas Afterschool held its 2nd Annual Partner Appreciation Luncheon on May23rd. Robbie Owens of CBS 11 offered words of wisdom and inspired the crowd of afterschool professionals as she reminded them of the tremendous lasting impact they have on children in our community.

Congratulations to Dallas Park & Recreation (pictured above) for being awarded this year's "Most Consistent Quality" and Readers 2 Leaders (pictured below) for "Best Overall Quality"!

Special thanks to our luncheon sponsors Frederickson and HeadSpace!
