From the Post President:
Greetings Members,

Happy Veteran’s Day! As I write this note today on November 11th, I am thinking of our many members who continue to serve and/or have served in the past – thank you! Many of us are preparing to attend the SAME Small Business Conference next week down in Atlanta and get back into face-to-face networking again – there are over 3000+ folks expected to attend.

YOUR Post is busy planning next year’s program. Promising to be another action packed year starting off with a tour of the Washington Aqueduct by the new General Manager, Rudy Chow, in January. February is shaping up for a joint Industry Day event with SAME DC Post. We will share a full program in our next newsletter.

December is filling up fast with networking and industry events planned by our brother and sister Posts in the region. Look for an invite from NoVA Post soon to join us at Maggiano’s in Tysons to celebrate our Leadership & Mentorship class graduation.

November Recap
On November 9th, our 2021 LMP class was honored to listen to the COO of Four Tribes Enterprises, Aaron Dixon, and learn more about how Native American firms operate and complete. Aaron’s story was impressive, motivational, and inspiring as he shared his experiences growing up on the Susanville Indian Rancheria in California and struggling to start a small business. We were also joined by the CEO of Bold Concepts, Kevin Wimsatt, who specializes in advising tribal and native owned firms to compete in the federal market. Our sincere thank you to Ms. Karen Durham-Aguilera who allowed us to use her conference room again at ANC!
On November 4th, SAME NoVA Post's
Young Professionals Committee hosted a
Fall Festival Young Professional Networking Event. It was a fun filled evening at Bull Run Winery where some of our young professionals had the chance to connect in-person for the first time! A special thank you to Ingrid Davis-Colato for organizing this event, we look forward to more young professional events in the coming year!
This month our resilience webinar was held in conjunction with November being the Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency's Infrastructure Security Month. Thank you to our guest speaker, Mr. Timothy Tetrault with the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP).
It was great to hear about all of the ways the federal government is experimenting to find ways to reduce energy consumption and make our facilities more energy efficient!

Maj. Gen. William Black, USA, was a 1877 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and SAME's first president. He served as Chief of Engineers from 1916-1919 during which time he commanded the Corps of Engineers and directed all the engineering activities of the Army throughout the Great War. In 1919, as he was overseeing the drawdown of engineer troops, he appointed a nine-officer board to consider the formation of an "association of engineers" that would aim to preserve and expand upon connections formed in war and promote the advancement of engineering and its related professions across both military and civil life. Black would serve as SAME’s first President in both 1920 and 1921.
