People with Extraordinary Hearts
"Volunteers are just ordinary people with extraordinary hearts. They offer the gift of their time to teach, to listen, to help, to inspire, to build, to grow, to learn. They expect no pay, yet the value of their work knows no limit. They've known the unexpected joy of a simple hug. They've planted tiny seeds of love in countless lives. Volunteers are just ordinary people who reach out and take a hand, and together make a difference that lasts a lifetime." (Kimberly Rinehart)
CASA of Gratiot County had the privilege to swear in three new people with extraordinary hearts. Please meet our newest CASA volunteer advocates Susan Berry, Dawn Bohjanen, and Amanda Siddall.
Susan has surrounded herself by helping children and families throughout her life from running a daycare for 20 years, teaching preschool and being a paraprofessional in an elementary school. Susan is a loving and caring wife and mother. She is an amazing foster parent of three children in the process of adoption. She is a do it yourselfer, loves to scrapbook, and she is a self-taught photographer. When asked why she wanted to be a CASA volunteer she shared that children deserve a voice. When talking to people who know Susie, words like patient, selfless and compassionate were used to describe her.
Dawn is married and has six children. Dawn has always been passionate about children and families. She holds a Bachelor in Psychology. Over the years, she has worn different hats from Child Protective Worker, foster parent, advocate, and now she is supporting people in their insurance needs. Dawn is also an avid gardener. When asked why she wanted to be a CASA volunteer she shared that from personal and professional experience, she has the ability to understand the different aspects of the child’s experience. When talking to people who know Dawn, words like genuine, kind, and giving were used to describe her.
Amanda was born and raised in Gratiot County; she is married and recently had her first child. She has a Master of Science in Nursing and works in the OB as an RN for McLaren Central. Amanda is an animal lover and enjoys gardening. Amanda has a passion for children and she feels strongly about their rights. Amanda became a CASA because of all the moms and babies that she has cared for that have been involved in the foster care system and did not have an advocate. When talking to people who know Amanda, words like caring, thoughtful, and dependable were used to describe her.
CASA of Gratiot County would like to express their sincere admiration to Susan, Dawn and Amanda for starting this journey and for volunteering their time to travel a road that will be far from easy. As a CASA Volunteer, the work you do is the road less traveled and I truly believe that as a volunteer you make all the difference. There are still many children waiting for someone to be by their side and be their voice. Learn more about what you can do to make a difference in the life of a child by calling Child Advocacy at 989-463-1422 or visit www.childadvocacy.net
