We Belong
Superintendent Update

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! Whether this is your child’s first or thirteenth year with us, rest assured there is a special place for each student in the Hallsville School District. As we begin another year, the district faculty, staff, administration, and Board of Education maintain focus on our children and their success. Student learning, social development, mental health, and safety are high priorities for our district.

Humans are social beings, and all social beings must experience a sense of belonging in order to flourish and grow to their full potential. To that end, several district goals are focused on ensuring students feel connected to their school, their teachers, and their peers. Positive relationships serve as strong motivators for each of us. At school, these motivators increase the likelihood that students will fully participate in their own educations and maximize their potential for success.

As we saw with the wonderful “Paint the Town Purple and Gold” initiative, Hallsville is a community where people demonstrate care, compassion, and support for their friends and neighbors, children and adults alike. Over the first week of school, our faculty and staff have been busy establishing environments focused on both academic excellence and quality relationships, ensuring that each student feels safe and accepted within their classrooms and school. Our fall semester activities and athletics teams—from softball to band, Spanish club to football—are ramping into full swing, providing abundant opportunities for cooperation and fun in pursuit of common goals. In addition, our local community groups are gearing up for their own fall sport and club offerings.

Headed into this new year of growth, the Hallsville School District is committed to assisting each student find a unique reason to engage with school. The schools’ administrators, teachers, and staff are dedicated to helping your child discover a place where he or she belongs.

Painting the Town Purple and Gold

Thank you to everyone in the Hallsville community for making our first annual “Paint the Town Purple and Gold” a success! The outpouring of support from families, local businesses, and churches was seen all over town. We look forward to this event growing each year, and welcoming all Indians back on the first day of school.
Gerbes Rewards
Link your Gerbes Plus Card to our school!

Do you already shop at Gerbes for your groceries and use your Gerbes Plus card to earn discounts and fuel points? If so, those purchases can earn Community Rewards for our local school.

Last school year, the Gerbes Community Rewards program donated $2,619 to Hallsville schools thanks to your support. Donations helped to support our attendance incentives, water bottle refill stations, student rewards, and student community services projects. We were able to do all of this with just 161 families signed up for the program!

If you are already shopping at Gerbes, please consider signing up for this wonderful program that provides support to Hallsville teachers and students.

August Update

The most recent monthly update from SM Wilson was presented for review at the board meeting on Monday, August 19. Board action was requested on the following change orders: (1) changes to SM Wilson project personnel previously accepted by the Board; (2) adjustment to the Guaranteed Maximum Price reflecting the three alternates previously approved by the Board; and (3) acceptance of a GMP credit associated with a casework materials substitution. The board elected not to accept bid alternates on storm water routing.

Each month, SM Wilson provided a detailed progress report on construction updates. These reports are available on the district’s website under Bond Updates . To read the most recent update, Progress Report #5, click here .
