APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR NEW SCHOOL BOUNDARY OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
Deadline to apply is Mon., Aug. 26
Fort Bend ISD is inviting parents and community members interested in serving on its new School Boundary Oversight Committee (SBOC) to submit online applications that will be accepted through August 26, 2019.

The FBISD Board of Trustees modified its policy that addresses school attendance areas in May 2019 and established the development of the SBOC, which specifies that membership shall include one community member and three parents from each high school feeder pattern (which consists of elementary schools, middle schools, and one high school).

FBISD taxpayers benefit from historically low interest rates, AA+ credit rating on latest debt transactions
Fort Bend ISD recently closed on a bond transaction totaling $125.33 million and received very favorable rates on its debt transaction.  
 
In June 2019, the Board of Trustees authorized the Administration to pursue the refunding of the Series 2015A and Series 2015B bonds in an amount not to exceed $70,880,000 as well as provide long-term financing for $79,120,000 of unissued 2018 Bonds. Bond refinancing (refunding) is an important debt management tool for state and local government issuers. It is typical to execute a bond refunding to achieve interest cost savings, to restructure the stream of debt service payments, or to achieve other policy objectives. A bond refunding is similar to homeowner’s refinancing their mortgage. 
Construction project at FBISD's newest elementary school, Malala, on track
Construction crews are making steady progress at Malala Elementary to ensure that the school is ready to receive students and staff for its mid-year opening in early January 2020. Malala students and families will be pleased to know that the campus is more than 83% complete.

Help the Fort Bend Education Foundation adopt 10 new Fort Bend ISD teachers
It’s a known fact that many new teachers begin their careers in public education by purchasing classroom materials with their own money. The Fort Bend Education Foundation assists new teachers in this area through its Adopt a New Teacher program.

With support from generous donors, the Education Foundation’s Adopt a New Teacher program helps new teachers outfit their classrooms by providing them with a $100 gift card to a local teacher supply store.

FBISD Board meetings - Non-profit networking event - GPS mentor training
District hosts Heart to Heart networking, Aug. 28
FBISD’s Collaborative Communities Department invites representatives from area non-profit groups to attend its Heart to Heart networking event. The free event will be held Wed., Aug. 28, beginning at 8:30 a.m., at FBISD’s Purchasing Warehouse.
FBISD mentors invited to GPS training, Sept. 18
New and returning FBISD mentors are invited to attend a mandatory mentor training on Wed., Sept. 18, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., in the FBISD Administration Bldg. Board Room. The training will prepare volunteer mentors for supporting the District’s Guiding Promising Students (GPS) mentoring program.
