2019-2020 Theme:
Economic Security for Women
Message from the President
The Board of AAUW SA has geared up for another year! We hope you will join us. You will find the names and positions of the Board in this newsletter. We have taken the lead from National and have adopted the theme of Economic Security for Women. This encompasses Work Smart, pay gap issues and economic opportunities for women and girls. I hope you have all gone online to www.salary@aauw.org and taken the Work Smart online class. Let’s all help reach the goal of 100,000 women trained online.

Eva Nwokah has lined up interesting speakers for our monthly programs to support our theme. You won’t want to miss learning more and spending time with others who support the mission of AAUW.

In May, Ruth Lyle and I met many wonderful women at the Women Empowerment Conference at San Antonio College. We hosted a table to spread the message of AAUW and how they can benefit from being e-members and having a school that is an AAUW partner. We hope to get more colleges and universities to join this effort. We are forming a committee to promote this effort. No connection with any colleges or universities is necessary to serve on the committee. Let us know if you are interested.

We are also excited about the ease of renewing your membership online. We no longer must rely on having the cash, remembering the check book at a monthly meeting or having to snail mail a check. Of course, you can still make your dues payments that way. Kathy Kraft, our new Treasurer, has made this online payment method easy with her instructions.

We continue to be a part of Can We Talk? along with many other organizations. I hope to see you at the August 28th event. And don’t forget the Interest Groups. The leaders of these groups continue to plan these monthly opportunities to have fun and be together.

I am honored to serve as your President for a second year. I am grateful for all of you and your willingness to support the mission of AAUW with your presence and your dues. I and the Board look forward to serving you this year and seeing you often at meetings and activity groups.

AAUW has adopted a Vision Statement of Equity for All. Though we still have as our mission statement, to advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education and advocacy, this Vision Statement expands our consciousness to be all inclusive. Something to think about.
