2019 C Scow Championship Season
is in the Books

While the WYA Championships suffered at the fickle hands of the wind gods, the remaining three championship regattas exceeded their own lofty expectations.  Rail to rail racing.  Terrific club support.  Excellent race officiating.  And some of the most competitive fields to date!

Will Haeger (B-1) cuts down the nets at the 2019 C Invite

The Okauchee Yacht Club with its sparkling new club amenities, put on a terrific event to kick off Championship Season.

Here's the top five:

With a great compliment of youth and experience, this year's competitors enjoyed consistent breezes that filled the length of the lake to provide plenty of sailing both Saturday and Sunday.  And a special thanks to the RC for their heads up work Saturday to get in two long races in the morning before a strong storm forced everyone to stay ashore that afternoon.  On Sunday skippers and crews enjoyed some sunshine and mild wind conditions to finish out the weekend.

Cam McNeil (SL-11) returns to capture the 2019 Western Michigan Yachting Association Championship

Cam McNeil, with his brother Ben as crew, returned to the C fleet to capture the  90th annual WMYA  championship.

Here's the top five:

Completing 6 of the 7 races scheduled, White Lake proved to be a perfect venue for sailors out of Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan.  With lighter air in the morning, Lake Michigan would then send in the thermal breezes as steady as the ocean trades for the afternoon; draping the fleet in blue skies and steady winds.  Thanks to the White Lake Yacht Club for once again putting on the ritz for the competitors and to the RC for laying down some real fast tracks that let the sailors stretch their legs and enjoy everything these boats have to offer.

Cam and Ben McNeil return to the C fleet and win back the WMYA Championship trophy

2019 WYA Championships prove that not all the fun HAS to happen on the water.

Who better than the fine members of the La Belle Yacht Club to host a championship regatta with no wind.  This year's WYA Championship missed the opportunity to crown another champion; but it also proved once again how much fun we have as a fleet off the water.  Thanks to all the volunteers who prepared and then adjusted to the conditions and made it worth the sailors while to be there.  And to the RC who calmly fielded questions all weekend long about the wind...we are truly fortunate to have the great officiating crews that we do.
And a special thanks for all the teams who showed up to race.
Until next year!

Will Haeger sails the perfect regatta to win this year's 2019 ILYA Championship!

Will Haeger with crew Brad Roble and Rachel Beers helped the OYC celebrate their sesquicentennial by racing a perfect regatta.  Three races.  Three bullets.  And this was one of the toughest field of competitors to date.

Here's the Top Five:

Sailed this year on the expansive waters of Lake Winnebago, the Oshkosh Yacht Club once again rolled out the red carpet for this historic event. Thanks to all the hard working volunteers and especially the RC for working hard to get as many races in as possible in some very difficult conditions.
