IPUL's E-News: August 23, 2019
Here are the highlights of our recent activity online. Not all everything is included due to timeliness. If an advertised event already took place, we've left it off.
We Want Your News!
If you have news, information or upcoming events in your hometown that are relevant to families who have children with disabilities or special health care needs and would like us to share that information, please email the details to parents@ipulidaho.org for review.

Our program coordinator will then share this via IPUL's social media networks.
We Are Looking For Your Feedback!
If your child has recently been unenrolled from Medicaid (including Katie Beckett) for any reason, please provide feedback.

Labor Department Rules That IEP Meetings are a Valid Reason for FMLA use
Be aware that FMLA applies to organizations with 50 or more employees and there are certain requirements for taking leave. Also, a question was recently asked about paid leave and sick time requirements. We found this for Idaho:

Use of Paid Leave

The FMLA only requires unpaid leave, however, the law permits an employee to elect, or the employer to require the employee, to use eligible accrued paid leave which includes sick, vacation, and compensatory time for some or all of the FMLA leave period.

If the employee uses the above eligible accrued paid leave concurrently with FMLA leave, the employee is required to comply with all procedural requirements, such as notice requirements, of the agency’s paid leave policies. Failure to do so may result in loss of entitlement to paid leave for the time period for which the employee failed to comply with the agency’s leave policies, although the employee remains entitled to take unpaid FMLA leave

If FMLA leave without pay (FML) is used, the employee cannot request to change to a paid leave after the payroll has processed.
