Craig Mercer

Tennis Director and AGM Toronto Tennis City
Dear Members,

Sliding on the clay with sweat on our brow on those warm summer days is something that we, as lucky Toronto Tennis City players, want to hold on to.  That being said, it's time to plan for sweater weather!

We have lots of activities and events planned for the fall season, some of which will take place while we are still outdoors, with much more planned for the indoor season.

EVENTS

We are delighted to announce that we will once again be hosting the Harold Green City of Toronto Championships from August 25th-30th. This men's and women's prize money open event attracts some of Canada's best tennis players. All members interested in coming to watch the tournament will be treated to a drink whether you would like a cold beer, pop or juice from the fridge.

We are also hosting the City of Toronto junior Super Series tournaments from August 23rd-September 2nd for the u10-u18 age categories.

Please note that court bookings will be limited during these events. In addition to the courts that will be available to members the tournament director will be opening up extra courts from 1-3 days in advance as courts become available.

Isabella Baston "Play Tennis and Stay Healthy!"

Hi everyone,

I came across this article which I felt would be great to share with you. Below is a quick summary of the article and you can click on the link below to read it in full. Play tennis and stay healthy!

Mastering tennis takes time, patience and dedication. Besides it being a great social sport, tennis has certain key health benefits over any other sport. According to a Harvard University physician, people who participate in tennis three hours every week reduce their risk of death in half. Another US study showed that tennis players scored higher in vigor, optimism and self-esteem, and lower in depression, anxiety and tension than any other athletes or non-athletes. As tennis requires tactical thinking, alertness and quick decision making, playing the sport generates new connections among the nerves in the brain; this means that playing tennis often stimulates a lifetime of continuous development of the brain. In terms of developing positive personality characteristics, tennis outperforms most sports, especially golf, which tends to go hand in hand with tennis among many tennis club members. Finally, for those looking for a fun, full-body workout, it was found that in terms of caloric expenditures, competitive tennis burns more calories than aerobics, inline skating or cycling.

If you needed a sign or reason to play tennis this week, this is it!
