Saint Paul's Announces new Treasurer

We are happy to announce that Will Rice has been elected as Treasurer of Saint Paul's Church.  Will is following the tenure of Ann Ewell who has served faithfully as treasurer for a number of years.  We thank Ann for her dedicated service and look forward to Will's serving in this position.

Will received a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Georgia in 1994 and a Masters of Business Administration from Mercer University in 1999. He served as a Trust Officer at Sun Trust Bank in Atlanta from 1996 to 2001.

Will joined Asset Advisors in 2001 and became Vice President in 2011. In 2002, he completed the required coursework to obtain his license as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).

Will currently sits on the Finance Committee at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church and has previously served as Junior Warden, Treasurer and Vestry member. He is Co-President of the Academy of Richmond County (ARC) Booster Club, where his son and daughter attend high school.

Will enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and being in the outdoors. In 1992, he even spent a semester in Kenya.

TOLLING THE BELLS
Remember. Reflect. Resolve.

This month 400 years ago, an English ship carrying about 20 enslaved West Africans, stolen from a Spanish slave ship, arrived in the Virginia Colony near Jamestown and sold their human cargo to colonists. This marks the beginning of the practice of chattel slavery in our nation's story. Saint Paul's will commemorate this pivotal event by participating in a nation-wide tolling of bells at 3 o'clock this Sunday afternoon, August 25th.

The Episcopal Church as an institution is committed to  racial healing and reconciliation and Saint Paul's is participating in that work. We invite you to offer time Sunday for reflection on this moment, the moment when the practice of human slavery became a core thread in the tapestry of our nation's vivid story. Learn more about or participate in Saint Paul's racial healing work by contacting Fr. Jenkins.

Ironman "Kick-off" Sunday

Ironman Weekend is September 27-29.  This will be 7th year that Saint Paul's has opened our doors to athletes, families, friends, and spectators from all over the world. It is a fun-filled weekend that gives us the opportunity to love our neighbors and serve as the hands of Christ by demonstrating hospitality, support, and encouragement.

There are volunteer opportunities available throughout the weekend and a place for each of us to be involved in some way.

The Ironman team captains will be on the Portico  before and after the 11 AM service with more information next Sunday.

WEAVING GOD'S PROMISES
Leader: Coleman Graham
Location: The First Classroom in CMC

Our bigger children will immerse themselves in an Episcopal formation experience rooted in the stories of our faith as presented in John's Gospel. In this second of a three-year cycle, our children focus on stories of individual encounters with Jesus, transformation in God's love, and the saints of the church. Our theme in this curriculum year is "Once we were no people, but now we are God's people." Every session incorporates theology and history from our Episcopal-Anglican perspective. Questions? Contact  Coleman Graham  or  Fr. Jenkins.

CHILDREN -- 4s to 8, Kindergarten thru 2nd grade

RECTOR'S FORUM
Leader:   Kim Butler and Ivey Coleman
Location: The Godly Play Room

We take children and their relationship with God seriously and seek to provide both space to foster encounters with God and the language necessary to make meaning of those experiences. Within the Godly Play classroom, the Biblical narrative is lovingly presented to children using beautiful materials with an invitation to step into each story with awe and wonder. Children are then allowed time to respond to and reflect on their experience of the story.

Looking Ahead

New Ministry
Mission Dawgs Augusta
Sunday, September 8, 9:00 AM prep and 1:00 PM serve

Over the last couple of months I, along with a fellow parishioner, have been volunteering with a group helping the homeless in downtown Augusta. Mission Dawgs Augusta is a community project focused on feeding and serving the homeless. Every Sunday tents and tables are set up on Ellis street to meet some of the most basic needs of the homeless population in Augusta.....our neighbors. Mission Dawgs relies on donations of clothing, personal hygiene products and groups to sponsor and help serve a meal at 1 PM on Sunday afternoon.

Saint Paul's is going to prepare a sack type lunch for around 160 people on Sunday September 8th. The youth will be helping during formation, (9:30 - 10:30 AM) in the River Room kitchen. We would like to have additional adult volunteers to help prepare and pack (9:00 - 10:45  AM ) River Room kitchen, and then serve at 1 PM (meet in the River Room immediately following the 11 AM service to carpool to Gap Ministries).
In addition there will be a clearly marked bucket popping up in the Mitchell Tyler Hall  to collect personal hygiene items. They are always in need of deodorant, travel size shampoo, washcloths, soap, and travel lotions.

A Prayer for the Election of a Bishop

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a bishop for this Diocese, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
