Remember daylight savings time ends this weekend and we will enjoy the hour of sleep we lost in March. On Sunday, November 1, you will need to turn your clocks back by one hour.
On June 16, 2020, Governor Pritzker signed Public Act 101-0642 declaring November 3, 2020 as a State holiday known as 2020 General Election Day. The law requires all government offices to close for Election Day on November 3, 2020. However, Cuba Township's food pantry will be open and one staff member will be on hand to answer phones.

2020 Exemption Check!
I would like to remind you to make sure you have your General Homestead Exemption and any other exemptions you are eligible for.
In order to confirm your exemptions, visit our property search portal at IMSLake.org. Agree to the terms of use and enter your 10-digit PIN. When you scroll to the bottom of the screen, there are four County links. Click on the Exemption link and the County's site will display your current exemptions.
General Homestead Exemption (GHE)
If your General Homestead Exemption (GHE) does not appear, it may be for one of the following reasons:
- You have not applied for the exemption.
- You purchased your home this year and the Seller did not have a GHE.
- You recently placed your property in a trust and the exemptions were removed due to the transfer of property to your trust.
If you do not have your GHE and you purchased your home in 2020, you are eligible for the exemption in 2021. Contact our office after January 1, 2021 and we can file online for you or you can file through Lake County's Smartfile E-Filing Portal.
Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption (SCHE)
Homeowners turning 65 years old this year are eligible for the Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption.
Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption (SCAFHE)
Homeowners that are 65 years old with an income of $65,000 or less are eligible for the Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze. If you received the Freeze last year, you are automatically filed for the 2020 Freeze, due to COVID.
However, you need to file for your Senior Freeze in 2021.
Disabled Person or Disabled Veterans Homestead Exemption
If you received the Disabled Persons or Disabled Veterans Homestead Exemption last year, you are automatically filed for the exemption for 2020 due to COVID. However, you need to file for your exemption in 2021.
We are here to serve you!

Firewood Fridays
November 6th and 20th from 7:30 AM until 2:30 PM (or sooner if wood runs out). Two bundles of wood are loaded into the back of cars. Firewood #'s are limited to two bundles per event. If you miss one event, we cannot provide four bundles at the next event. Firewood pickup is subject to cancellation and will be communicated via Facebook and website (cubaroads.org). Call 847-381-7793 to sign up or if a replacement tag is needed.
Mailbox Check
Please check your mailbox before the snow begins. Most mailboxes knocked over during a snow event are commonly due to weak posts.
Snow Removal
When removing snow from driveways, DO NOT PUSH it into the street. Also, landscaping should not be within 5 feet of the street - this includes "hardscaping" such as boulders and flagstone. Although these features are attractive, they create a hazard potentially leading to property and equipment damage.
Recycle Election Signs
Within 10 days of the election, you may recycle campaign signs at the Cuba Township Road District, Barrington Public Works, 300 Raymond Ave, Barrington or Village of Barrington Hills Barn Building, 112 Algonquin Rd in Barrington Hills.
