Word of the Week
Our word of the week is mixed chalice. We use a mixed chalice here at Trinity Folsom; as the altar is being prepared for Eucharist, the priest pours wine (port from Trader Joe’s!) and then a little bit of water into the chalice, and says “blood and water poured from his side” as a reminder of the blood and water that poured from Jesus’ side when he was pierced with a spear on the Cross (John 19:34).
Sunday School
Sunday School classes for children and adults meet at 10:30am on Sunday morning. The class for adults got the bird poop part of the Book of Tobit last Sunday, and this Sunday we’ll finally meet our gay demon and killer bride. Join us in the main room in the Parish Hall at 10:30!
Master Site Plan Focus Groups
This Sunday is the last chance to attend a focus group meeting to learn about our master site plan for the preservation, renovation, and expansion of our buildings. This is an excellent opportunity for each member of our church to provide the vestry and Master Site Plan Project Committee with your thoughts concerning our needs. Focus groups will meet in the Parish Hall annex this Sunday morning at 8:45am, 10:20am, and 12:30pm. We’re extending childcare until 1:30pm for folks attending the focus group that begins at 12:30pm.
Anglican Chant at 11:15am
This Sunday at the 11:15am service, we’ll be reintroducing Anglican chant for the Psalm. Anglican chant is one of the great glories of the Anglican tradition, and it’s been awhile since we did it here – probably a long while, since we didn’t have any of the Anglican chant music books! For a famous 20th century example of Anglican chant, click here
Young Adult Brunch
Just a reminder that any and all young adults are invited to join Fr. Charlie and Brett for brunch at Marly and Moos after the 11:15 service this Sunday. Please meet in the parish hall around 12:30 and we’ll all head down to Sutter Street together!
Children's Choir Rehearsals Begin!
Children’s Choir rehearsals kickoff on Wednesday, August 28th, from 4:30-5:15pm in the church. This is an “open house” rehearsal, so if you’re not yet sure about making a commitment, you can attend on the 28th to check out the group and see what you think. For rehearsals, the choristers usually divide into separate groups based on age, and all kids ages 6-14 are invited to join. If you’re planning on attending this open house rehearsal, RSVP to Brett with your child’s name. And for more information, click here.
Trinity Wednesdays
We enjoyed our Lenten supper and discussion group so much that we’ve decided to make it a more permanent offering. Beginning on Wednesday, August 28th, we’ll host a potluck supper in the Parish Hall at 5:30pm, and then have a discussion group from 6pm-7pm. We’ll be covering a lot of different topics over the course of the year: science and religion, race in America, what it means to be a Christian, and more. For the first few weeks, we’re going to read and discuss The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Order it at your local bookstore or get it from Amazon here. Read up to page 78 for our first meeting on the 28th.

The nursery will be open for childcare, including activities for older children. Children’s Choir rehearsals begin that day at 4:30pm, and Children’s Choir families are especially invited to stay for supper and group. It’s a potluck, so bring something to share and we’ll eat whatever is brought, but if you can’t bring something one week for any reason, come and join us anyway, we’ll have enough.
ECW Women's Fellowship Social August 30th
Our new women’s fellowship group ECW (Episcopal Church Women) is holding a social event from 5pm-7pm on Friday, August 30th, at  Citizen Vine (609 Sutter Street). We’ll provide some light appetizers to nosh on while you relax and chat with new and old friends, and you can buy your own beverage from their extensive menu. So we’ll know about how many to expect, RSVP to the church office by August 26th.
Poolside Potluck Picnic for Parish Families
Our annual Labor Day weekend poolside potluck picnic for families will be on Sunday, September 1st from 4pm-6pm. The Abellos are kindly hosting again for us; they’re in the directory, and if you don’t have the directory app on your phone yet, call the church office (916.985.2495) or e-mail for info on how to get access to the directory. Click here and let us know if you will be attending so we can plan the food. Bring a dish to share, and swimsuits and towels for the kids. Since there were a lot of kids in the pool last year, we’re hiring lifeguards this year to help us keep an eye on everyone and to keep everyone safe.
Meals at Powerhouse Ministries, September 3-5th
Going on three years, Trinitarians have gathered the first full week of every month to prepare meals at Powerhouse Ministries’ Women’s Transformation Center, a transition home that cares for women escaping drug addiction, domestic violence, and homelessness. These women are doing a lot of inner work, and their days are quite full of both obligations and emotions. That’s where we come in! Teams of 3 prepare a simple meal for themselves and the 11 residents. Once the food is done, everyone sits down for a lively “family style” dinner together. As the meal draws to a close, the residents take care of all the dishes. This ministry has been a great way for folks to serve some very brave women and meet parishioners that they might not otherwise know. Currently, we’d like to expand it since we need about 12 volunteers each week that we prepare meals at Powerhouse. If you are interested in signing up or learning more, please follow this link!
Trinity Trekkers
On Friday, September 6th, the Trinity Trekkers will be gathering for an excursion to Mississippi Bar along the American River Parkway. We’ll be meeting at the Shadow Glen Riding Stables (4854 Main Ave. in Fair Oaks) at 8:30am. If you’d like to carpool from the church, we will be leaving for the stables at about 8:15. Come pray with your feet! If you have any questions, please email Fr. Charlie.
Safe Church Training
Save the date- we’ll be offering “Safe Church” training from 3pm-5pm on the afternoon of September 22nd! Safe Church training is required for Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, vestry folks, and it’s a good thing for everyone. This training will make you more aware of ways to prevent misconduct and to make the Church a safe place for everyone. More details coming soon!
Rest in Peace
Pray for the soul of Grace Wagenblast (mother of parishioner Cathy Vento), who will be buried from the church on Friday, August 30th, at 2pm.
