Kofax Releases New Version of RPA

Earlier this year, Kofax released a new version of its Robotic Process Automation software product, formerly known as Kapow.  Kofax RPA 10.4 was released in late March. Here are some highlights and features of Kofax RPA 10.4:

Unified Design Environment
Leverage a single robot design studio that enables robot builders to visually recognize applications, screen areas and objects in real time as you are building the robot automation workflow.

Cognitive Document Automation
Apply powerful, AI-based cognitive intelligence to learn, process, and classify unstructured document data with Cognitive Document Automation. With our machine learning analysis, Kofax takes the guesswork out of complex document processing and dynamically adapts to your evolving content-heavy processes.

Built-In Analytics and Process Intelligence
Gain insight from out-of-the-box dashboards on robot operations and system performance; customize dashboards to analyze employee productivity and other key process elements; identify trends and improve processes over time.

Centralized Robot Deployment and Management
Deploy, manage and execute robots from a centralized server and communicate with applications running in a virtualized environment; concurrent running of robots enables superior performance and scalability.

Flexible, Scalable Deployment
Easily scale with a stateless, multi-threaded architecture that can be implemented as an on-premise enterprise deployment or provisioned in the cloud.

Robot Lifecycle Management
Integrated industry-standard based on Git Version Control System (VCS) for managing enterprise RPA robot deployments-from hundreds to thousands of RPA robots. VCS helps manage RPA robots, snippets, resources, and schedules, as well as synchronization between different source control repositories (e.g., dev, test and production environments).

Automated Process Discovery
Automated Process Discovery records, maps and analyzes targeted business processes, applications and actions, including human interactions via the desktop, and multiple internal and external business applications and reference sites. It provides insight into existing processes and tasks and helps to identify repetitive tasks that can be performed by RPA robots.

Multiple Data Sources and Types
Use robots to capture an image of a screen and dynamically locate and identify UI elements such as labels, buttons and text boxes within application environments like Citrix.

Intelligent Screen Automation
Automatically publish robots with a standard Java, .NET, SOAP and RESTful interface, which can be used to control robotic processes from external applications and remote systems.

Integrated Web Browser Engine
Delivers superior web application automation support and supports the execution of multiple robots concurrently on a server, versus requiring multiple virtual desktops and a browser (e.g. Internet Explorer) to run.

Micro Apps Powered by Robots
Lightweight business applications called Kofax RPA Kapplets can be designed to execute robots based on set parameters or present data back to a business user.

Hyland Re-evaluates Support Lifecycle of Office and OnBase

In order to align Hyland's support of the Office platform with Microsoft's current roadmap, Hyland is re-evaluating the support lifecycle of Office and OnBase. In April of 2017, Microsoft announced  that mainstream support will be required for the Office platform to connect to Office 365 commercial services. Historically Hyland has supported versions of Office through extended support; however, with growing concerns regarding security and infrequent updates to software in extended support, they look to align support for Office products by ensuring that all OnBase integrations with Office products run on Office platforms that are still in mainstream support.

Timeline
Microsoft is scheduled to end mainstream support for  Office 2016  on  October 13, 2020 . After that point, the majority of customers will migrate to newer Office products in order to continue receiving security patches and new features. By staying in step with Microsoft's mainstream support timeline, we are also encouraging customers to move onto platforms that will receive security patches.

Products Impacted:
  • Integration for Microsoft Outlook
  • Office Business Application
  • WorkView Integration for Outlook
  • Document Composition template builder for 2016
  • OnBase clients (Client, Unity, Web, etc.)
Migration
To continue to receive support, Office/Outlook products need to be on a supported version and the individual OnBase integration add-in software components need to be updated to function with the new version of Office. These add-in components will be available for download from the Hyland secure download site for the proper OnBase and Office version. The Office integrations version agnostic licensing changes make this transition much easier as the software will be available for whatever Office version is supported with your current version of OnBase.

(Support for Office also includes embedded viewing of Office documents and sending email using Outlook within OnBase clients. In order to continue to receive support, the Office products need to be on the supported version, but no additional software will be required.)

Licensing
Customers who currently use the OnBase Integration for Outlook and/or Office Business Applications  DO NOT  have to purchase new licenses for the Office version to which they upgrade, as the version-specific licensing has been eliminated

Be sure you're getting the most out of your OnBase system by keeping it up to date, learning more about it, managing conflicts, tuning and/or engaging All Star's  Managed Services team to help.
That's a wrap for this edition of The ACCELERATOR.  Please reach out to us if you have any questions or comments regarding the information in this newsletter or to discuss optimizing your existing or planned business process automation.

We appreciate your time and interest and look forward to connecting with you soon!

All Star Software in the Community
A team of All Star animal lovers recently volunteered their time at the Connecticut Humane Society for an in-service day and extensive tour of the facility.  The group was led by CHS Development Manager, Priscilla Clark.  The tour included the adoption center, medical operations where a procedure was being performed on an anesthetized cat, post-op recovery and quarantine units.

Team All Star had sessions with trainers and educators and were shown how the building is constantly sanitized for the safety of both animals and humans.  The group engaged in a discussion with CHS Executive Director, Gordon Willard, regarding the history of the Connecticut Humane Society, legislative initiatives, cruelty prevention and how to get involved to support animal welfare.

Team News: Scott Sagendorf to Manage
All Star Support Team

All Star Software Systems prides itself in helping customers achieve their goals and consistently supporting their technology investments with the expertise of highly trained staff members.

Scott Sagendorf
Manager of Support

What once began as a two-person operation, All Star Software Systems has grown to become an organization delivering mission critical solutions to multi-billion dollar organizations around the world.  And as someone who was the first All Star employee and has been with the company since its early years of existence, Scott Sagendorf is an integral part of the management team, ensuring a constant customer support presence on the front lines as well as behind the scenes.

To help better serve our customers, Scott has recently taken on the role of Manager of All Star Support. In his 15-year tenure with the company, Scott has held previous positions as an Implementation Specialist, Customer Services Group Manager and most recently as Technical Account Manager.  In each position his focus was keeping our customers' needs as a priority, while managing the ever changing technical requirements of each role.

When asked about Scott's latest role transition, Vice President, Paul Pitts stated, "For consistency and quality, Scott has handled all of our installations, upgrades and associated planning.  Having Scott manage these processes as well as our help desk is a great way to provide higher quality support to each of our customers.  In short, his team knows each account, their environment and key uses of their systems, not to mention the customers' personnel.  Scott's support team will be keenly aware of each upgrade, roll out and then be able to better support every customer."  Another big win for All Star and our customers!

When not at work, Scott enjoys attending his  kids' sporting events, hanging out with family and friends and playing golf or basketball.
