A LETTER FROM JOHN DAVID (JD)

"Ted said the world is my canvas!" -- Daniel
(Ted is one of our counselors.)

Dear Friends and Family  of  Camp Sancta Maria,
It was a wonderful summer filled with much joy, laughter, chanting, friendship, fun, and faith! One nine-year-old camper who had been missing home and initially wanted to go home early said to me on his last night, "I'm looking forward to seeing my mom tomorrow but I'm a little sad to be leaving. It's been really good for me to be here and have chapel twice a day. I don't always get to go to Church when I'm home."

Thanks to your support, this young man and all our campers were able to have an incredible experience of both fun and faith at CSM! Thank you to all who helped to make the summer possible--the parents who entrusted their children to us; our campers; our amazing staff and volunteers; our generous donors; and all who prayed for us. I am most grateful for each and every one of you!

We are also grateful for the wonderful example set by our Honor Campers this summer. The Honor Camper Award is presented weekly to one camper in each age division who exemplifies TKO-- Trying Hard, Being  Kind, and Being  Obedient. At the end of the summer, the counselors review those campers who have received the Honor Camper Award and from that list they select an Honor Camper of the Year for each age division, along with runners-up.

Please join us in congratulating the following campers who were named Honor Camper of the Year!

Junior Division Honor Camper of the Year
Winner: Peter Osberger
Runner up: Iohan Sanchez
2nd Runner up: Daniel Hailo

Intermediate Division Honor Camper of the Year
Winner: Holden Bryce
Runner up: Eddie Osberger
2nd Runner up: Grayson Johnson

Senior Division Honor Camper of the Year
Winner: Andrew Bala
Runner up: Daniel Powers
2nd Runner up: Blake Schaff

And that's a wrap! The CSM 2019 season is officially over. The bunk beds are empty. The Mess Hall is quiet. The horses have gone home. The docks are all pulled in. And the kids are home getting ready for the start of another school year.

Even though the campers have left, the work at CSM continues. Wally is preparing for our rental groups to arrive. And a group of  volunteers will soon be making their way back to Camp to begin cleaning up, making repairs where needed, and preparing Camp to be winterized and closed until next Spring. Thank you, CSM volunteers!

While the s'mores sticks have been packed away and the campfires have been safely extinguished for the season, the fire of CSM still burns in our hearts!

And so the countdown begins until next year! Only 294 days to the start of CSM Summer 2020!
In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the photos below of some of our campers in the final weeks at Camp. Because of you, lives were changed at CSM this summer!

The joyful, smiling faces you see are there because of you!

The looks of pride and accomplishment on our campers' faces are thanks to your financial and prayerful support! We couldn't offer the programs and experiences we do without your help!

Because of you, our campers had a blast at Camp! They learned new skills, worked as teams, built friendships, and encouraged and supported one another.

The time our campers spent growing as young Christian men and women, growing closer to our Lord, has been possible only because of you!

We can't do this without you, and we can't thank you enough!

We are deeply grateful to you for being part of the CSM family! God bless you.

Sincerely,
John David Kuhar

CSM is held in a trust governed by an independent Board of Trustees. While the Archdiocese of Detroit had generously donated the services of one its priests for decades, they are not responsible for CSM financially. This means that we are responsible to secure our own funding to advance the mission that has been passed down to us since our founding in 1933. To continue this essential work, we need your help. Are you feeling called to donate? Thank you for your prayerful consideration!
