Winter is storytelling time.
Among First Nations in Canada, the long dark winter nights and icy temperatures made an ideal time for storytelling. Storytelling and oral tradition played and continue to play a vital role in sharing knowledge, teaching values, and entertaining. Through stories, First Nations pass along their histories – the tales of adventures, relatives and ancestors, the land, and animals – to the next generation. How can you engage your learners in the history of Treaties using storyteller as the messenger?
