Among First Nations in Canada, the long dark winter nights and icy temperatures made an ideal time for storytelling. Storytelling and oral tradition played and continue to play a vital role in sharing knowledge, teaching values, and entertaining. Through stories, First Nations pass along their histories – the tales of adventures, relatives and ancestors, the land, and animals – to the next generation.
