 This past week was a week to say goodbye to heroes. One was very well known and made headlines across the world. The other was less well known, globally, but deeply mourned by all those who knew him. I found myself considering both of them and realized just how broad heroism can be defined, from the small simple acts that we can acknowledge as brave and heroic, to the depictions of heroes so grand they can scarcely be contained on massive theatre screens. In both cases, they can and do inspire us and point us to greater things.

| Celebrate Communion with Us Via Drive-Thru This Coming Sunday |
We are now offering Drive-Thru Communion at Christ Church each Sunday, following the live stream of the Eucharist, until 12:00 NOON. There is no need to make a reservation. Cars will enter at the gate next to the mailbox on Frederica Road and drive down the path. Car windows should remain closed until directed to be lowered by the clergy. A member of the clergy will administer the Eucharist, after which parishioners will drive to the back gate, to exit onto Stevens Road.

Save the Date
 Our Bishop, the Right Rev. Frank Logue is doing virtual visits to churches across the Diocese in order to officiate and record Sunday worship. He will be visiting Christ Church, Frederica on October 11, 2020.

| Prayer in the Church |
 Christ Church is now open for limited private prayer time by appointment. Each afternoon, Tuesday through Friday, there will be opportunities for individuals, couples, or families (sorry, no groups that don't live together at this time) to spend time in historic Christ Church for prayer. To sign up you must call the office during regular business hours (912-638-8683), we will not take reservations via email. You will be scheduled for your time only after speaking with Glenn Queener or another staff member who can confirm the reservation. We ask that those who come in for prayers wear masks while in the church and wipe down the pew they sit in and anything they touch with provided cleaning materials as they leave. A staff member will meet those with reservations to allow them access to the church, as our buildings are still closed to the public. That staff member will screen for COVID symptoms including taking your temperature and recording names in our contact tracing log book. |

A group from Christ Church Frederica have joined parishioners from Trinity Episcopal Church, in Asheville, North Carolina for an hour of prayer, reflection, and contemplation on Wednesday mornings at 11:15 to 12:15.

| Sunday School for Children and Youth |  |
Although we will not be gathering physically for Sunday School this fall, Mother Katie and our Sunday School teachers are looking through our usual curriculum to see what can be adapted to for use in an interactive zoom classroom or a YouTube video. We are excited about the possibility engaging our children through Bible stories! Our teachers have been wondering how Christ Church Children are doing? And they are looking forward to engaging with your kids and sharing faith together!
We are looking to start on September 13!

Mother Katie is working on proposals for outdoor youth group gatherings that will follow six foot social distancing guidelines and keep everybody safe. Doing the ropes course, playing mini golf, having a cemetery scavenger hunt, etc. are some of the suggestions. If you have an idea of what might be fun, let Mother Katie know! We are monitoring the COVID cases closely, and coming up with creative ways to gather and stay safe. Mother Katie is following the directives from our Church task force in these matters, and once given the thumbs up we will GATHER together AGAIN!

| Hurricane Laura - Help Is Needed |  |
Hurricane Laura slammed into the Gulf Coast last week, which was the same week that marked the 15-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Episcopal Relief & Development is in constant communication with the impacted dioceses working to reach vulnerable populations devastated by the storm. Please donate today to support these efforts. | Pandemic Relief - 10,000 Face Masks! |
 Many thanks to all of you who have supported our Pandemic Relief Fund in recent months. With your help, we have been able to purchase 10,000 masks for students in all the scho ols in Glynn County Public School System. Thousands have already been distributed, but we still have a ways to go.
We need more folks to help iron on decals, as we work towards our goal to create masks for ALL children in the Glynn County school system. If you can iron mask decals, please contact Glenn Queener at 912-638-8683 or at [email protected] and he'll arrange for you to pick up a bundle. We're committed to this outreach to help keep our children, school staffs, and community a little bit safer during this pandemic!

| Computer Laptops Needed for Students Who Are Virtual Learning This Year |
 For a variety of reasons, which include individual children's health issues and the compromised health of family members at home, many youngsters in Glynn County will be learning from home this school year. In order to do so, they will need computers to access the virtual learning programs provided by Glynn County.
Unfortunately, purchasing a computer is not economically feasible in many households, so we are asking for donations of any used, functioning laptops (less than 10 years old) for the children who will need them to do their schoolwork. Used computers may be dropped off at the Christ Church Parish House during normal business hours, but please call ahead at 912-638-8683 to make sure someone is available to receive your donation. It is best to wipe the memory of your computer, before donating it.
If you'd like to help get a computer into the hands of a child who needs one, and don't have a used one to spare, you may also make a donation to the Christ Church Pandemic Fund and designate the funds for Computers for Students. The average cost of a Chromebook, like the ones used in the schools, is $275.

| The Backpack Buddies Update |
We're happy to welcome some new folks to the Backpack Buddies team, including some youngsters with flexible schedules, who are home-schooling this fall, and some friends from St. Williams. We're also happy to welcome back many of our long-term, die-hard packers!
 At this point, we are trying to get settled back into our schools -- Burroughs Molette, St. Simons, and Oglethorpe Point Elementary Schools. Communities is Schools is helping us get bags to the virtual learners at BME and SSE. The Gathering Place is our point of pickup for virtual learning students who attend OPES. The Gathering Place's office is conveniently located at Hopkins Homes, in Brunswick, where many of our children live. We've got lots of logistics to work out, but no worries - the food will get exactly to where it needs to go!
Delivery Help Needed
We do have a request for help with deliveries of food for shut-in seniors who are served by St. Athanasius. If you're interested in helping with this outreach, please contact Susan Shipman at [email protected].
Adopt a Buddy!
 If you've thought about adopting a young buddy, or have had one in the past, this is a great time to begin a new sponsorship for 2020-2021. You can "adopt" a child for the upcoming year for $100, which will supply the youngster with weekend food bags for the entire school year. You are welcome to donate by check (just mail it to Christ Church, at 6329 Frederica Road St. Simons Island, GA 31522 - check memo, Backpack Buddies) or give online HERE (choose Backpack Program).
