Did you know? Autumn is likely the best time to begin composting. It's an activity you can (and should) do year-round. If you've been contemplating the idea of composting, this is the perfect time to
fall into it! (Pun intended.) As the leaves begin to collect on your lawn, put them to good use. They're nature's gift to you - they're free, and they are one of the most important ingredients in your compost bin.

GSWA Annual Gala - a Big Night with a Vegan Challenge
|
GSWA's annual Gala, our biggest fundraiser of the year, took place on October 3. Our distinguished honoree, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, under-scored the need to focus on clean water, and thanked us for inspiring her and our community to be "environmental leaders and good stewards to our air, water, and land."
This year, we introduced something unique, a "vegan challenge," where attendees could support GSWA and the environment without spending a dime. This proposition was the brainchild of four anonymous donors who teamed up to offer a $75 donation to GSWA for every vegan meal served at the Gala. The Chathams and Madison Join the Growing Number of NJ Towns Banning Plastic Bags
|
A recent article published in NJ.com indicated that at least 24 municipalities and one entire county in New Jersey have passed plastic bag regulations. Many other municipalities and another county have "passed rules which are now waiting to go into effect." Joining this ever-growing list were
Chatham Township, Chatham Borough, and Madison, passing regulations which will take effect in March of 2020. Chatham Township Committeewoman, Tracy Ness, who voted "yes" to the ban, referenced GSWA's study of microplastics

GSWA Board Members Voice Their Support of Proposed Long Hill Sewer Sale
|
The Long Hill Township Committee is working on a deal to sell the their public water treatment plant and system to a private company for $12.7M
in an effort to address the town's long-term sewer infra- structure needs. This much-debated deal will be voted on through a public referendum in November. GSWA board members, Kathy and Alan Pfeil, expressed their strong support of this proposed sale in a letter to the editor.
