Lion's Tale
NEWS AND INFORMATION

Thanks to everyone who helped Kick-off the year with enthusiasm! Tons of photos were taken at our “Step & Repeat” banner and hospitality area. Classrooms were visited. People shared summer stories, complimented each other on haircuts and “new shoes” (always a popular topic!), and hugged away! Even grown-ups! Over 300 people participated in the Ministry Fair and Opening Worship last Sunday. Many books were purchased. Nearly $200 was raised for Middle School class trips through the lunch sale.

Way to go, Lions!

Back to School Night
Elementary and ECEC Parents
Tuesday, August 27th
6:30-8:00 PM
Back to School Night is about learning, but this time for the grown-ups in our children's lives. We are working with our faculty and staff to bring you an evening of information, fellowship, and hopefully learning about how we can partner to serve our children best. You'll hear our voices, learn about the plans we have, and then we can walk together as a blessed community. We will start in the gym as a whole campus with families of two-year-olds all the way through eighth graders all in the same space. We are a family of families, so we want everyone at the table this evening! Festivities start at 6:30 PM and extend to 8 PM. This is a parent meeting and we encourage families not to bring children. Kindergarten - 8th Grade parents contact us if you have significant needs for child care.
Here's to a great night, together...learning!

If you would like to purchase lunch time milk for your child(ren), please complete and return form on or before Wednesday, August 28th. Milk will be delivered to student(s) classroom starting on September 3, 2019 .

Prayers
Each week we will post prayers from our community. Unless you tell us otherwise, we will print it for 2 weeks. Thanks for sharing outcomes and thanksgiving!
Prayers Week 1:  Thanks for the children and families brought as part of our Zion Family. Thank you for Mrs. Tordil joining us again as both teacher and student mentor! Please be with everyone as we settle in for a great year or learning, fellowship, and friendship.
Look for the Signs
Thanks to our special funding from the Pacific Southwest District of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and their TLC Grant Program, we were able to purchase a couple of theme banners with this year’s theme logo. We will supplement these banners with a few more School Pride banners in the coming weeks. We are also pleased to report that our monument sign and on-campus signage process is underway. We are seeking approval from the City of Anaheim for the monument sign. Other signs should be ready to go very soon!

Hot Lunch/Pizza Changes

We are using a new system to make the ordering process of hot lunch, and pizza easier for you. Orders will be taken through the RenWeb Parent Web and billed through FACTs . This is a new process to the office staff and we thank you in advance for your patience as we work out any kinks that may occur during the implementation of this process.

Starting in September pizza orders will no longer be accepted in the classrooms on Friday pizza days. All pizza will need to be pre-ordered on the hot lunch monthly menu found on the Renweb ParentWeb.

PTSL CORNER

Zion PTSL (Parent-Teacher-Student League) would like to extend a very warm “WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL” to all new and returning Zion families!! We are very excited to begin the 2019-2020 school year and have plenty of fun activities and events planned for the year!
Please click on the following link to save a copy of our Events Calendar

I just wanted to share a few updates with you –
·          Sunday’s Open House/Ministry Fair was a great success and it was wonderful to see so many new and familiar faces again! We also kicked off our 2-day Scholastic Book Fair on Sunday. The Book Fair helps raise Scholastic Dollars, which in turn help our teachers purchase classroom book sets and update their classroom libraries. Thank you to all of those who purchased books!

Tonight, Wednesday August 21 st , we have our very first PTSL meeting of the year! It will be from 6:30pm – 8:00pm in the Susanna Room (right across from the preschool). Just so you know, you do not have to pay to join the PTSL nor do you have to be a member to attend a meeting. Also, did you know that attending a PTSL meeting counts towards your service hours? Interested in learning more about what PTSL does and volunteering at our events? Stop by tonight to find out how you can help!

·          Tuesday, August 27 th is Back to School Night – hope to meet each and every one of you there!

·          On Thursday, August 29 th , we will be kicking off our annual Fall Fundraiser ! I know many of you might be thinking, “We just started school and we are already fundraising?!” Well I would just like to explain why we do this. The PTSL hosts many fun (and free!) events throughout the year… such as Lego Star Wars Night, Moms and Muffins, Dads and Donuts, and Grandparents Day, just to name a few… We also like to go all out for our teachers and staff during Staff Appreciation Week, birthdays, and Christmas to express how much we LOVE and appreciate all they do for the school. Which is why we run two major fundraisers (one in the Fall and one in the Spring) – this helps maintain our budget to pay for these events and expenses. Please be on the lookout for a packet to come home on the 29 th – any little bit helps!

Looking forward to a WONDERFUL school year!

Thank you families for allowing us to partner with you to raise our children to be all God plans for them to be. We have started the year learning procedures, doing some academic “benchmark” testing, and most importantly “getting to know each other” activities. NWEA “screening” tests (not the “big achievement tests”) start next week.
