Equity Task Force
SHP Dean Gwendolyn Mahon announced the founding of a SHP Equity Task Force (SET), to be co-chaired by Dr. Lois Rockson, Dr. Jose Centeno and Dr. Pamela Rothpletz-Puglia.
We hvae received more 30 requests from faculty, staff and students to be part of the task force to review objectives and create meaningful programming and outcomes. "I am committed to implementing immediate initiatives to strengthen equity and inclusion within the SHP community and its programs," Dean Mahon said.

Faculty, Students Publish Studies on Vitamin D
Rena Zelig, program director of the MSCN program, Anna Parker , alumni and adjunct faculty, Allison Gomes , a DCN student, and Stephanie Johnson , a DCN grad, published papers on the role of Vitamin D in children with health issues such as cystic fibrosis and ADHD. The two studies appear in the July/September edition of Topics in Clinical Nutrition .

New OTD and SLP Programs Ready to Enroll Students
Our Department of Movement and Rehabilitation is adding two new advanced degree programs - Occupational Therapy Doctorate and M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology, which focuses on services for multi-ethnic, socially diverse populations. The programs are recruiting students for the 2021 Fall semester. Dr. Sandra Rogers is program director of OTD, while Dr. Valerie Johnson is program director of SLP.
Claire O'Connell, Pamela Rothpetz-Puglia Awarded Grants
Associate Professor Claire O’Connell received an award from the Physician Assistant Education Association for Entry- Level Doctoral Degree research. The purpose of her proposed project is to gain insight into current PA educator’s perspectives and opinions regarding the entry-level clinical doctorate for PAs as an alternate degree for entry into the profession.

Associate Professor Pamela Rothpletz-Puglia received an RBHS-IDEA Innovation Grant, which is meant to support action-oriented projects that promote an inclusive, diverse, and cohesive culture at RBHS. The committee approved a grant for her study, entitled "Building Equity-Oriented Health Care Capacity: An assessment of health care provider clinical care, educational, and research protocol trauma-informed knowledge and practices at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Science schools."

Rutgers SHP Professor Judy Deutsch was selected to receive the 2020 Research Alumni Award from the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School, and Kessler Foundation. Congratulations, Judy!
