PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT - PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Each week, we will be highlighting one of our programs or offering resources for the Radcliffe community to illustrate The Radcliffe Way!

Physical education is a major contributor to helping children socialize with others successfully as well as providing opportunities to acquire important skills called Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). Teaching SEL through physical education helps students successfully overcome many of the obstacles they face each day. It promotes academic achievement and positive social interactions while reducing behavior challenges both inside and outside the classroom. Studies have shown that students that receive social-emotional interventions through physical education and throughout their learning careers exhibit impressive and measurable benefits later on in life. Here is a link to a website explaining the benefits of Social-Emotional Learning.

The five pillars of social and emotional learning that are assessed in PE are self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, relationship skills, and social awarenessIn every Physical Education class, students are learning to manage their emotions, cope with stress, and set positive goals.

In Physical Education classes, the children are constantly developing, implementing, and assessing effective strategies for promoting positive social interactions. Through different games and activities, the students are cultivating social skills, developing emotional intelligence, while also building confidence and self-esteem.

MORNING DROP-OFF PROTOCOL

Please make sure to keep your student in the car during morning carpool until 8:00 when school opens. It is imperative that students remain under adult supervision while on school grounds. When the building opens at 8:00 am, students are permitted into the building.
CHESTER GRAS

Chestertown's annual Chester Gras is coming up on Saturday, February 22, 2020! T his family friendly event is the Kent County Food Pantry's biggest annual fundraiser for the Backpack Program. It supplied nearly a quarter of the funds spent by the Community Food Pantry on the program last year. Radcliffe supports the Food Pantry throughout the year with school service projects, and we would love the Radcliffe community to be involved in Chester Gras as well!  We encourage everyone to attend or even volunteer! More info, the volunteer jobs needed, and sign up site is available here!
RADCLIFFE COOKBOOK

For his Leadership Passion Project, student Collins Rhoe combined his love for cooking and wanting to help other children attend RCS to create the idea of the first ever Radcliffe Cookbook. With input from you and family members, the Radcliffe Cookbook will feature some of our community's favorite recipes.  Collins needs your help to make his project a success and it starts with you taking a few minutes out of your busy day to share your favorite recipe(s).  Collins has made sharing your recipe super easy.  Just click on this link and fill in the form, upload a picture if you want, and tell everyone why Radcliffe means so much to you.  Don't forget you can purchase a copy of the Radcliffe Cookbook for only $10 and know that 100% of the proceeds are going directly into the RCS Scholarship Fund.

If you have any questions, or if you would like to pre-order a copy of the Radcliffe Cookbook for yourself and/or a family member , please email Kelsey Aburn .
