Hello All,
Still in Iowa, and have been busy in the office (ugh!) getting things lined up for the fall and winter. I am enjoying being home, as anyone who’s been bored enough to follow
my FB page
will see.
A lot of travel coming up in October and November (you know… England, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa… the usual). ; )
In the meantime, we have a few seminars and courses on this side of the pond that still have space that I’d like to direct you to, and a couple “over there”, too. You can click on the Course Calendar farther
down to see the details, but here’s the overview…
We have a Weekend Seminar being taught by Pam Martin in Australia in prep for my visit where I will be teaching an Advanced 5-Day Course in November. On November 23rd - 24th, Pam will be teaching a
Weekend Seminar in Yarck, VIC
. I arrive in Yarck on November 25th to start the
Advanced 5-day course
.
If you don’t happen to be passing through Australia, we have a couple of seminars a little farther east… or west if you’re going the other direction… in either case you could end up in:
- Kerrville, TX for a Weekend Seminar with Lise Lunde on September 14 and 15
- Coatesville, IN for a Weekend with Coralie Hughes (author of Dressage Movements Revealed and Dressage Horse Optimized) on September 21 and 22
- Rosedale, BC Canada for a Weekend with Mark Fletcher on September 28 and 29 (Advanced 5-Day Course following),
- Or, if you keep going east you can join Chaja Kolthoff-Voest in Ruinerwold in the Netherlands on September 7 and 8.
And that’s just in September.
In October, unless you’re already there you can go to Bozhurishte, Bulgaria for a Seminar with
Nikki Kagan
on the 2nd and 3rd. (No need to brush up on your Bulgarian as Nikki speaks English).
BTW, in an interesting way, Nikki has forged an unlikely partnership between horses that yawn (she makes them do it!), and the business world through her work as a Masterson Method Instructor, and as a facilitator in the business world. Apparently, there is some value to horses that yawn in the corporate world.

It would be nice if we could have her tell us more about that and her book
Instinctive Leadership
in our next newsletter. I’ll see if I can facilitate that. Stay tuned!
If you’ve already done the Weekend Seminar and would like to do an
Advanced 5-Day Course
with me in Oxfordshire UK, I’ll be teaching one there on September 30 to October 4. Join me! (There may be a pint
or two in it for you). ; )
Long-time MMCP and friend
Leslie Brooks
sent me this short video clip of her doing a demonstration…no, not a political demonstration, a Masterson Method Demonstration at the Rockleigh Equestrian
Center in NJ.

Carrie Wirth, of EQ Media, wrote a very nice article about The Masterson Method in a very nice magazine called
Equestrian Living
. You can see the entire magazine here:
www.eqliving.com
or you can just get to the important part on page 86, if you’re in a hurry.
You can expect to see more articles out there in other magazines in 2020, not just about The Masterson Method, but on educational topics I like to share that affect your horse, as I sharpen my pencil and get back to some neglected writing. I like talkin’ but have been too busy to sit down and do it for a while. Time to make myself do it. Talk to you soon.
Until then, like me,
Enjoy your horses
Jim

Beyond Horse Massage Weekend
Seminar Testimonial

Just spent the best weekend of my horses life!
"Having the Masterson Method in my tool chest of ‘must have knowledge’ I now consider a MUST! This clinic made me aware of how our beautiful, eager to please horses can often suffer in silence, as is their nature. I now can recognize and eliminate, or prevent these aches and pains from becoming chronic in most cases with this new bodywork method. If I can’t, I know where to go to address the problem. It is, BY FAR, the best thing I have have done for not only my horse and others, but for my peace of mind. Too often, I have felt like I was ‘feeling around in the dark’ looking for solutions when my horse was ‘off’. Those days are over!" -Chris Shows

Masterson Method Equine Specialist
Program News

|
About MMES
The Masterson Method Equine Specialist specializes in sharing specific light touch Masterson Method techniques with persons served in equine-assisted learning and therapy programs. By doing this bodywork on horses, participants deepen their connection with horses while also gaining self-awareness and self-regulation skills; meanwhile, therapy horses are tended to through simple bodywork and learn a new way of relating to people. It's a win/win!

I grew up on a farm in NE Iowa where my journey with horses began. We had 4 quarter horses that I spent a lot of time with as a child and developed a lifelong love for these animals. I grew up, married and had a child of my own. My career was in healthcare and I spent 15 years working in a Mental Health Facility as a caregiver. I never forgot the horses that I loved as a child and felt called to find a path back to horses. I began volunteering for a nonprofit horse organization Chiron Inc. in 2017. Working with the horses has had a profound impact on my life, and my journey in personal development. I have also witnessed the positive impact it has had on the lives of others. Horses are natural healers, they give so much. I wanted to find a way to give back to them and that is when I discovered the Masterson Method. I took my first weekend seminar in 2018 and have practiced on our herd at Chiron. The herd at Chiron Inc. has not only benefited physically but has benefited from the connection and communication that this method offers. I will be incorporating the MMES in to our programming at Chiron Inc. to help as many horses and people as I can.

I was a horse-crazy kid, longing for the connection with a horse that I’d read about in books. My mare and I had our moments, but they were nothing like what I saw Jim Masterson achieve. I wanted that connection with a horse and I wanted to share it with others, so I jumped at the chance to be certified as an Equine Specialist. Soon after, I added The Masterson Method® Bladder Meridian Technique to the therapeutic facilitation curriculum I was developing for Connected Horse, an equine-guided program for persons with dementia and their care partners. It has been a joy to see what giving back to the horses does for Connected Horse participants. It is remarkable to see how speaking the horse’s language helps humans to connect with each other. I look forward to bringing that connection to more horses and humans.

New Certified Practitioners

Setaria, South Africa
I grew up in a non-horsey home, but had a love for horses as long as I can remember. I was only able to own my first horse as an adult. Wanting to learn more about horsemanship and understanding my horse better I started looking for someone to bodywork on my horse. I came across Rob and Chantal Holder who was willing to travel to the area I live.
Not long after Rob and Chantal Holder came to treat horses at the yard with The Masterson Method (with amazing results) they hosted the first Masterson Method Weekend Seminar in South Africa. I attended and my journey to become a certified practitioner started. Being able to read a horse’s responses and helping them has opened a whole new world for me.
It’s been an amazing journey, learning and seeing great results both performance wise and mentally in a horse after a treatment.
I’m situated in Thabazimbi, Limpopo province. Willing to travel.

I have loved horses since I can remember and started riding when I was 8. I grew up riding hunter/jumpers but branched out into a bit of reining and working cow horse as well as dressage over the years. I have a bachelors degree from the University of Arizona in equine industry and while there, had the opportunity to learn to work with studs, start colts and work with “problem” horses as well. My first horse was an OTTB and he sparked my love of the breed. I love to rehab and retrain OTTB’s and my current horse (the handsome guy in the photo!) led me to The Masterson Method! He told me in no uncertain terms that traditional massage and chiropractic was not going to be tolerated so I went in search of a way to help him. I started slowly, just doing bladder meridian from across the stall; it was all he could tolerate at first. As I watched him melt and he was able to handle more I realized how much I loved not only helping him feel better in his body but also the way this method was allowing us to communicate with each other. I wanted more!
I jumped down the rabbit hole, watching every YouTube video I could find as well as all the DVD’s available. I have always been interested in anatomy and physiology but I was inspired to deepen my understanding of equine and rider biomechanics and their connection to bodywork. The more I learn the more passionate I become about this way of doing bodywork! I became certified in February 2019 and work on horses of all breeds and disciplines! I am located in Gilbert but will travel.

Albuquerque (Peralta), NM
I’m excited to be a Masterson Method Certified Practitioner. I discovered The Masterson Method in 2015 & after a year of working with my own horses & a group of EAAL (therapy) equines I was so impressed with the benefits of The Masterson Method that I decided to pursue more advanced training & became a Certified Practitioner. I’ve found The Masterson Method to have multiple benefits to equines – physical, mental & emotional. But perhaps the greatest benefit has been the deepening of my connection with the equines I work with & the heightening of sensitivity to their challenges, opening the door to enhanced benefits in the physical/technical application of the Masterson Method. The Masterson Method has really raised the bar of my “horsewomanship” & many of my clients are expressing the same discovery with their own equines!
I provide service to the greater Albuquerque/Santa Fe areas. I also provide service traveling to outlying areas for multi day Masterson Method services & often combine Masterson Method services with horsemanship instruction/clinics. Discounts are available for multiple horses & multiple session packages. I primarily work on dressage, hunter/jumper, eventing, EAAL (therapy) & distance competitors, but I’m happy to offer service to any type, breed or discipline of equine. The Masterson Method is a great resource for any equine – I firmly believe that it is the best thing that has ever happened to me & my horses! My equestrian background is in the sport horse disciplines, long distance competition & recreational trail riding. Professionally I instruct & train, primarily in the sport horse & recreational trail riding disciplines, teaching from a strong commitment to classical Natural Horsemanship. I’ve also worked as a PATH Certified EAAL Instructor, Advanced Level for the past 21 years. My EAAL experience has enhanced my appreciation & understanding of the impact of injury & illness on equine & humans alike, with both immediate & long term affects. Please contact me personally to discuss what Masterson Method can offer you & your equines!
