Arlington Fire Unveils "Rung of Honor" Award
 
On August 13, Chief Kraski unveiled the "Rung of Honor" award in Fire Station 46. The "Rung of Honor" award is given to an employee who has distinguished themselves with exemplary service to the Arlington Fire Department and the Arlington community. This award is conferred on an outstanding member whose contributions to the department or community have contributed significantly to the organization. This award recognizes high standards of conduct, leadership, pride, and accomplishments.

The first recipients are pictured below: retired Firefighter/Paramedic Harold Smith, retired Chief Doug Schmidt, and retired Chief Tom Cooper. Congratulations!

Arlington Fly-In, August 16-18

Share the joy of flight during the three-day celebration of sport aviation at Arlington Municipal Airport. The Arlington Fly-In is one of the most popular aviation events on the West coast, drawing over 50,000 attendees annually. The 2019 Arlington Balloon and Airplane Festival has something for everyone, from radio-controlled aircraft to Hot Air Balloons to Bi-Plane rides. Over 1,000 aircraft including Powered Parachutes, Home Builts, Classic, Vintage, and Warbirds.

The festival includes aerobatic air shows, drone shows, and a Saturday night balloon glow. Also included in the admission price of just $17 for adults, all youth 15 and under are FREE, are hands-on workshops, educational forums, aircraft judging, the Coastal Community Bank Kids Area, and many other aviation-oriented activities. On Saturday, August 17, enjoy music, food, aviation displays and vendors late into the evening while hot air balloons light up the dusk sky! This year, new special character balloons Speedy Bird, Tic-Toc, and Colorful Butterfly will join the Balloon Glow. Watch the synchronized formations of drones with lights in many colors after the sun has set! Arrive after 6:00 p.m. and receive special $20 per carload pricing to watch the Balloon Glow and Drone Show. Join us for the  Grand Opening of Elemental Cider! Owners Brian and Christina Callahan launched  Elemental Hard Cider to bring quality, affordable, and delicious hard cider to the world. Veterans: Record Your Stories for Veterans History Project, August 19 at Everett Public Library
 
On Monday, August 19, the offices of Rep. Rick Larsen and Rep. Suzan DelBene will be partnering with the Library of Congress to host the Veterans History Project at the Everett Public Library.
  
The Veterans History Project is an oral history initiative that collects, preserves and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans for future generations. Since the Veterans History Project began in 2000, more than 108,000 women and men have contributed their personal stories to the project.

All U.S. veterans who served during wartime are eligible to be interviewed. If you are a veteran interested in being interviewed or you would like to help interview veterans on August 19, you are encouraged to RSVP at http://tinyurl.com/everettinterviews.
City Lodging Tax Grant Program Training, August 21
 
A training on the City's Lodging Tax grant program, the application, and the selection criteria will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Arlington City Council Chambers. Interested applicants are encouraged to attend this informative and essential training.

The application for the City of Arlington Lodging Tax Grant program for projects that promote economic development and tourism in the City will be opened on August 30, 2019. Applications will be available on the City's website or by contacting the Finance Department at 360-403-3421. Applications can also be picked up at City Hall, 238 N. Olympic Avenue, Arlington.
 
Applications may only be accepted from public and non-profit agencies for projects that promote economic development and tourism in the City. Completed applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on October 1, 2019.
