They have been awarded $69,900 from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund which was then given to the Underground Kitchen.

Town Hall Meetings
It has been great to see so many faces! Sherwood Bowditch, our Junior Warden, was Wednesday night’s (Aug. 12th) host and as he said, "It’s the people who make the church!" We encourage you to join us for one of next week's Town Hall Meetings. And for those who have attended one, call your friends and encourage them to go.
These Town Hall meetings are a virtual gathering for the Leadership to share plans first-hand and for you to ask questions. We encourage you to ask questions and give us feedback. This not only helps us - it helps everyone as we navigate the challenges of the virtual and in-person services during COVID.
Here’s a snap shot of what the Town Hall panel will be sharing:
-Kickoff Sunday at Rock Bottom on September 13th
-Outdoor worship on the St. James’s Campus
-Plans for reopening the sanctuary
-Formation planning for Children, Youth and Adults
Next week’s Town Hall meeting will be held on
-Wednesday, August 19th at 5:00 p.m.
-Thursday, August 20th at 11:0 a.m.

Sacred Ground Webinars
Coming to St. James’s September 2020

A resource designed for use by Episcopal congregations, "Sacred Ground" is a ten-part film and readings-based dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people. You are invited to join one of our small, lay-facilitated groups.
Meeting once or twice a month, each small group walks through chapters of America’s history of race and racism, while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity.
Your Financial Support Matters
We’ve been apart for nearly six months, and we know you miss and need our community as much as we do! As conditions allow for us to move into the next phase of gathering, your leadership have made plans, and we want to share them with you.

You can learn more details and also ask questions at the Town Hall meetings on August 19 at 5:00 p.m. and August 20 at 11:30 a.m.

The Leadership will speak about our plans for the future. We’ll talk about Opening Sunday, to be held outside beside the James River at Rock Bottom. And we have plans for ongoing outdoor worship in our St. Francis Chapel (currently the open parking lot beside Valentine Hall). As soon as it is safe, we’ll resume worship in our beautiful sanctuary, as well as formation for children, youth, and adults.

At St. James's we have several ways to give:

  • If your custom is to pay a lump sum at year-end, consider setting up a recurring monthly draft from your bank or financial institution
  • Create an automatic payment through your online banking portal
  • Simply by using our website, here, you can set up recurring payments
  • Our church app is a wonderful tool, and great for giving online

CARITAS Center Apartments Opening
The long-awaited opening of the new CARITAS Center is just around the corner, & St. James’s DOERS are so excited to be part of this new place. The new CARITAS Center will soon welcome community women in need of housing, recovery, support services, and a path towards a new beginning.

St. James’s adopted a two-bedroom apartment and DOERS have generously contributed household items to complete its brand new set-up!

Under the leadership of Jennifer Pollard, gifts were provided as part of a “housewarming shower” and last weekend Jennifer and her team decorated the apartment, and prepared it to receive its new residents!

Kudos and thank you to Jennifer and to all you have contributed and participated, and our congratulations to our very own Karen Stanley who is the CEO of CARITAS and has led the way to make it all possible!
