Another Successful School Supply Drive!
by Becky Barber, Home Missions Committee
Kim Meyer, Bowen Barber, Gerry McCord, and Becky Barber counted and organized the supplies and stuffed the backpacks before they were picked up by Tricounty Family Ministries
The Home Missions Committee would like to thank all who participated in donating backpacks and school supplies for Tricounty Family Ministries. We also appreciate the volunteers who helped organize and sort the backpacks and supplies last Monday, as well as those who handed out the filled backpacks to the children on Friday. The following supplies were collected, sorted, and divided among 87 backpacks according to the size/age appropriateness:
81 packages of markers, 12 packages highlighters, 260 erasers, 924 pencils, 250 pens, 130 glue sticks/glue, 100 paper clips, 90 packages of paper, 139 spiral notebooks, 105 composition books, 158 boxes of crayons, 68 packages of colored pencils, 49 packages of index cards, 56 binders, 21 packages of dividers, 144 folders, 1 package of construction paper, 43 rulers, 54 pairs of scissors, 5 staplers and staple packages, 50 St. Philip’s bag tags, 40 children’s Bibles
We had guaranteed Tricounty that we would donate 50 backpacks, but generous St. Philippians donated 87 backpacks altogether! On Friday, August 16, we watched so many little faces light up as they walked through to pick out a new backpack filled with age-appropriate supplies to start the new school year.

Blessings for the 2019-2020 School Year
During the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, the Rev. Andrew O’Dell invited all students and teachers to come forward for a blessing before the start of the new school year. (He asked school nurses to come forward, too––Mrs. Ellen O’Dell obliged and stood front and center!).
Heavenly Father, we pray your blessing on these students, faculty and staff as they begin a new school year. Keep them ever-mindful that your ways give more life than the ways of the world, and that following you is better than chasing after selfish goals. Help them to take failure not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance for a new start. Give them strength to hold their faith in you, and to keep alive their joy in your creation; And make them, we pray, ambassadors for the Gospel of your son Jesus: so that wherever they go, and whatever challenges they face, this world might come to know you through them; for we ask these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

The Book of Common Prayer,

Prayers for the LAMB Board Mission
Please pray for the LAMB Board mission to Tegucigalpa in Honduras August 23-27. We have six St. Philippians serving on the board for LAMB, one of St. Philip’s world mission partners: Joanna Macmurphy, Susan Keller, Elizabeth and Maybank Hagood, and Tammy and Guv Gottshalk, who will be traveling with their daughter, Lauren. Please pray that they will bring blessings and truly come alongside the LAMB family for encouragement, strengthening, and real heart fellowship.
LAMB, one of St. Philip's world mission partners, is a Christ-centered, multifaceted ministry based in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The members of LAMB seek to share the hope found in Christ Jesus as they care for, educate, protect, and empower those suffering extreme poverty, abuse, and exploitation in Honduras. LAMB was founded in 1999 by lifelong missionary Suzy McCall as a training school for Hondurans called to world mission.
