Government Affairs Update – August 2020
|
FEA leads 1031 Coalition Effort to Update Ernst & Young Macroeconomic Study
As part of our ongoing campaign to preserve Section 1031 like-kind exchanges, FEA is leading a real estate 1031 coalition effort to produce an updated Ernst & Young (EY) macroeconomic study regarding the impact of eliminating or limiting Section 1031 like-kind exchanges.
The 2015 EY study measured the impact on GDP during a time of full employment. The updated study will focus more on the impact of job growth spurred by like-kind exchanges during a period of less-than-full employment. The study will also focus on the significant need to repurpose and renovate existing real estate in several sectors, such as retail, hotel and office, to meet the changing needs of pandemic and post-pandemic business models.
