Share your voice: Folsom attendance boundary revisions
The Folsom Cordova Unified School District is working with its community to review and propose changes to attendance boundaries in our Folsom schools.
First, we must give our families multiple opportunities for input - including surveys and public forums - during the process (see timeline to the right). Any adopted changes would not take effect until the 2020-21 school year.
Boundary changes will help our Folsom schools maintain the level of excellence our families have come to expect by better balancing enrollment capacity at our schools. With two similar-sized, large middle schools feeding into two, different-sized high schools, existing feeder patterns have created overcrowding issues at Vista del Lago High School.
What happens next: Earlier today, the District released its first set of proposed maps and distributed an accompanying survey. Feedback collected from Aug. 22-30 will be used to help narrow down proposed changes. Revised maps will be presented in public forums before any formal recommendations are made to the Board of Education later this fall. Board meetings will also provide the public an opportunity for input.

ICYMI: Superintendent Koligian's welcome back message to families
In a special welcome back message to families, Dr. Sarah Koligian reflects on how much work happened over the summer to help prepare students, educators, and families for another fantastic school year.
The superintendent also provided an overview of major construction and modernization projects moving forward, while also spending some time digging into the idea of "Climate 2.0" and what it means for the upcoming school year.

High school students perform Shakespeare over the summer in CHS theater

This summer, 20 Rancho Cordova students had the opportunity to perform Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Cordova High School Performing Arts Center.

Not only was participation in the production free for the students, it was free for audiences as well, thanks to generous funding from the city of Rancho Cordova's Community Enhancement Grant program, and the dedication of our community partner, the Cordova Accelerated Performing Arts (CAPA). CAPA worked with CHS drama teacher Mark Cornfield to direct, and FCUSD alumni Anne Ellis as assistant director. The three spectacular performances were held at the CHS Performing Arts Center.
We caught up with CAPA's director Rebecca Sloan and asked what an opportunity like this means for students: "This version of community theatre is entertaining, but also provided this year's 20 young actors the chance to work side-by-side with professional actors, directors, stage managers, and choreographers from the greater Sacramento region."

Sloan also remarked that her most memorable moment was "to see and hear the audience of nearly 200 community members on opening night respond to the performances of our young actors. Everyone worked really hard to bring this show to life and working with the young actors were such a pleasure! ... Our partnership with the school district, the park district and the City of Rancho Cordova is providing a creative outlet for youth and young adults from across the City to come together to engage in the performing arts for free and to be a bigger part of their community."

Check out our Facebook gallery to see pictures of the performance, and read more in an article written in this Gold River Messenger article . To learn more about CAPA, please follow them on Facebook or Instagram, or email then at [email protected]m
