Preparing Each Student for a Successful Future

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!! We hope this message finds you excited for what the day and the entire year can bring! Never doubt the impact, or "heartprint" you can leave by focusing on your "WHY!" It's going to be a great 2019-20! #repmoproud

As a reminder, the Staff Communicator will be distributed each Thursday that we are in session, and two summer issues are also distributed. Archived copies can be found on the "Communications Department" web page.
Online Staff Meal Payment Option
Unfortunately, the option of online meal payments through SISK12 is not currently available as it is for our families. That said, another option is available by clicking HERE. A link can always be found under the "Staff" tab of the district website.

Training Videos Due August 23
Earlier this month all employees received an email from "Republic R-III" with the subject line "SafeSchools Online Training."

This email houses a link to the required training videos that all employees must watch annually. The username is your district email address.

We are providing these videos should you want to watch them prior to returning to work, for some of you.  However, the due date to have these completed is not until Friday, August 23.

If you did not receive this email, please contact your supervisor directly.

Smore Teacher Accounts
As a reminder, district Smore acounts (e-newsletter distribution tool) are available for all teachers across the district! Grade level accounts for each elementary building and EC are available. Three accounts at RMS (6th, 7th & 8th grades) and three accounts at RHS (1st, 2nd and 3rd floors) are also available to accommodate any secondary teacher who would like to use this e-newsletter service! An account for specials teachers along with extra-curricular activities are available as well. CLICK HERE for login information.

An introduction email was sent in the fall of 2017 that included helpful information and directions on how to access Smore accounts. It's an "oldie but a goodie" so CLICK HERE for that information. A video tutorial is included, but can also be found in Google Drive. Keep in mind, the video and original information was geared toward EC and elementary teachers, but is pertinent for any Smore user.

Chats with Chance
Below is the schedule of meeting times for "Chats with Chance." As a reminder, each month Dr. Wistrom will visit a building to host conversations with employees. These meetings are casual opportunities where employees can visit with Dr. Wistrom regarding any topic of their choice. Building libraries will be the location of these meetings with the exception of EC (classroom) and the Transportation Department (meeting room).

ALL employees are invited to EVERY meeting, if you'd like to attend! Dr. Wistrom looks forward to visiting with many of you through this opportunity!

Updates from CIA
As we begin a new school year, we wanted to share some changes in the CIA Department to allow for seamless K-12 support. As Director of CIA, Dr. Yonke will continue to support in many of the same ways as in the past, but will also get to work more closely with the K-12 Curriculum work. Mrs. Renegar will get the opportunity to use her strengths in analytics and assessment and take on the role of K-12 Data and Assessment Specialist. Below are some of the key responsibilities that will enable you to know who to contact if you have any questions. As always the CIA Team is excited to partner with you for a successful school year. Please let us know if we can support you in anyway as we kick off the new year.

Dr. Debbie Yonke, CIA Director
K-12 Curriculum Adoption, Development and Implementation
Summer Professional Learning/SI Flex Days
New Teacher Induction
Research Approval
University Partnerships

Mrs. Jennifer Renegar, Data and Assessment Specialist
District Assessment Coordinator

Dyslexia Learning Opportunities
As we continue to focus on best practices in literacy and ensuring success for all of our students as life-long readers, the CIA Department will once again be offering learning modules regarding Dyslexia. These modules are housed within Canvas and will be available to all staff at the beginning of the school year. If you were in district last year, this will be a good refresher and reminder. If you are new to Republic, this will be important information to add to your teaching resources. As more resources are available they will be added throughout the school year. Please contact Dr. Yonke if you have any questions.
STRIPES 360 Registration: Tiger STRIPES Full
Due to high interest, we have reached our maximum enrollment for Tiger STRIPES. A waiting list is available by calling 735.3778. However, slots are still available for Tiger PALS and Tiger TEENS.

New Visitor Management System
As we kick off the new school year, we are also kicking off a new visitor management system that will help us electronically record and check the sex offender registry for anyone who visits and accesses our school buildings.  If you plan to visit our schools for class parties, as a guest speaker, volunteer (additional background check form still needed https://www.republicschools.org/Page/1189), to have lunch with a student, contractor, etc. you'll need to bring with you a state issued picture ID as a way to check in with our front offices.  We are excited about implementing this system as it helps us continue our focus of creating a safe and secure learning environment for our students and employees.

Bus Rider Expectations
back-school-bus.jpg
The safe transportation of our students is a top priority for the Republic School District. To ensure that each route and trip provided to our students is safe and pleasant, it is imperative that a safe, clean and controlled environment is present on the bus. In that regard, we ask that all bus riders and guardians review the bus riding expectations listed HERE .

**Teachers, please share with students and families.

Car Line Help, Please!
CLICK TO WATCH!
Traffic congestion gets pretty heavy, especially at dismissal times near the elementary buildings. We think one way we can help combat this is by asking families using the car line to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before dismissal time. As a reminder, once students are dismissed the wait isn't too long at all! From the first student who is picked up to the last student, there is only about a 12 minute difference! Of course, the first few days of school will take a bit longer as more families are picking up, but with some patience we will get the car lines moving smoothly, safely and as fast as possible soon! Check out this video for more! Be sure to share this information with anyone who picks up your student from school.

**Teachers, please share with families.
REMINDER: Every Friday is an Early Release
Each Friday full day preschool through 12th grade students will dismiss one hour early for teacher collaboration time. That means THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 16 is our FIRST FRIDAY EARLY RELEASE!

**Teachers, please remind families of this!
Celebrating Birthdays at School with Smart Snacks
Celebrating birthdays at school is certainly fun and memorable for our students. All students have an opportunity to celebrate by sending trinkets or treats to share. Due to district policy, if treats are brought in they must be on the USDA Smart Snacks list and also must be store-bought and sealed. There are many delicious, fun and healthy approved items including cookies, puddings, snack crackers, fruit snacks and ice cream treats. Additional details can be found at https://www.republicschools.org/healthservices While this is a change from previous years, only allowing snacks from this list to be brought into classrooms will assist in making sure we are able to meet student allergy needs along with providing healthy snacks for students as birthdays and celebrations are a regular occurrence.

**Principals will be sharing with teachers and secretaries the process for how to address any snacks that come to school that do not meet these standards.

**Teachers, please share with families.

Secondary ADPP Deadline August 23
Every student in grade 6-12 will be issued a take home technology device as part of the RepMO Ready plan. Our goal is to provide a digital learning device to all secondary students for use both at school and at home. Students are responsible for the care of their assigned device at all times, both at school and home. The district strongly encourages families to purchase an Accidental Damage Protection Plan explained in the online form found on the Parent Portal. Students will not be allowed to use school technology resources until the appropriate online form has been completed. To purchase the ADPP CLICK HERE or payment can be made at open houses or in the building office. The deadline to purchase is August 22. Take note that any damage that occurs without ADPP payment will incur the full cost for repairs or replacement of the device.

**Teachers, please share with students and families.
