GGUSD Schools Open Wellness Centers
Schools throughout GGUSD are opening Wellness Centers to ensure students have a safe space on campus to focus on their mental health and well-being. The addition of school-based Wellness Centers is part of the district’s Choose Wellness campaign, launched in 2019 to increase and expand mental health awareness and support.

“Our school-based Wellness Centers provide students with another layer of support to combat stress and anxiety, which has dramatically increased due to COVID-19,” said Walter Muneton, Board of Education Vice President. “We know that stress can be a roadblock to learning and we want to give students the skills to cope with the personal challenges in their lives.”

Wellness Centers provide a safe space for one-on-one or group counseling, offer students a quiet space to process emotions and equip students with skills that help them overcome anxiety, fear and worry.

GGUSD Celebrates Employees for Years of Service
GGUSD honored 625 employees for their years of service at the 34th Annual Employee Recognition Program on December 7th at the Garden Grove Community Center. Two GGUSD employees received a special recognition for dedicating an impressive 45 years to the district, and another 15 employees were honored for their 35 years of service.
“GGUSD students benefit from the exceptional number of employees who dedicate their entire professional careers to our school district,” said Board of Education President Lan Nguyen. “We are proud to offer an outstanding workplace culture that attracts wonderful employees who are dedicated to serving students and who contribute to the family feel of our school communities.”

The employees with 45 years of service are Sylvia Krenzien and Grace Noah. Krenzien joined the district as an instructional assistant, and served as a school community liaison before becoming a teacher serving at Hazard Elementary, Lincoln Adult Education Center, and Russell Elementary where she’s been teaching since 1996. Noah also joined the district as an instructional assistant, worked as a bilingual testing clerk, and now currently serves as a school community liaison at Los Amigos High School.

During the event, district administrators and Board of Education members celebrated 53 employees for 30 years of service and 126 employees for 25 years of service. Hundreds of employees received pins for 10, 15, and 20 years of service.
